The Search for Crow-Bros: Mid-August Update, 2024

This will be a short one, just a no-nonsense status update on my path toward making friends with wild crows. For the lingest time, crows have been sporadic or all-together absent in the areas I have available to me. I’ve been scattering peanuts and doing crow calls in these areas for about three months now, and iver the course of the last week or so, I’ve noticed a change.

Coworkers have told me over the last few days that there are crows in the evenings, eating the peanuts I always leave scattered around my car. Lately I’ve seen a few crows waiting in the distant trees when I come in, and today I have found them perched above my parking lot, seemingly waiting.

Today they seem to be scoping me out. They’ve noticed me calling them, and I’ve finally managed to capture some of their attention.

This first picture, I got it right with this guy. I caught his eye, the walked outside the fenced area and dropped some snackies outside the fence. He was on it within 5 minutes, and I was so happy to see him enjoying his peanutty treat!

These two (below) were eyeing me when I came out to run some parts across the street. Luckily these days I always carry…So I grabbed some peanuts and walnuts from my hobo bundle - I wanted to surprise them with the delight of some walnuts, but I made one fatal mistake - I placed the nuts inside the fenced in area. One took off as I was placing them, the other shortly after.

I think they don’t trust landing inside of a fenced in area, which is why I love them, they’re so smart.

…it’s been very exciting lately, as the tides have begun to turn. I can feel that I have finally captured the attention of some crows, and now is a fun part as I attempt to build a rapport with them.
