Bayon, Temple with a Thousand Faces at Angkor Thom

Apart from Angkor Wat, Bayon Temple is also a must-visit when visiting Cambodia. I came to this temple on Saturday (20/1/2018) after being satisfied to see Angkor Wat.

This Buddhist temple, built by King Jayavarman VII, is located in the heart of Angkor Thom, the center of the Khmer Empire in the 12th / 13th century. His real name is "Jayagiri" (Mount of Victory), during the French colonial period, it was called the Banyan Temple (Banyan Tree = Bodhi Tree, the tree where Sakyamuni Buddha attained complete enlightenment). To the Cambodians the word "Banyan" seems a bit difficult, finally it says Bayon, that's how the name comes from now.

Originally, Bayon was a Buddhist temple when King Jayavarman VII ruled. However, once the king changed, namely during the reign of King Jayavarman VIII, Bayon was turned into a Hindu temple.

This temple is also famous for its two sets of bas reliefs that show a combination of mythology, history, and everyday scenes during the Angkor Kingdom.
