Made my own Sage smudge stick

As long as I’ve been burning sage to cleanse my working environment, I’ve always just bought my smudge sticks - usually on Etsy. It’s not a bad deal, and they last me quite a while.

But this spring I planted four sage bushes. The picture above was taken after they were thinned to make this massive smudge stick.

I’m going to sty how the plants hold out as winter sets in here. If they can survive it, I’d rather let them deepen their roots and come back stronger next year; that way I’d have an endless supply!

But if it looks like they’re going to die as my half of the world drifts further from the sun’s warmth, I’ll just harvest them all and make several more sticks.

I believe I planted two prairie sage and two white sage…or are those the same thing? I could Presearch it, but I’m not that worried about it. If they are different, I can’t tell them apart.

This year was my second attempt at growing sage. I tried with two plants over the summer of 2020, but I didn’t give them enough sun and they died out pretty quickly.

Where these ones are planted, they get the sunrise and all the light until maybe 3 PM…they’ve done very well in 2021. If they die off and are harvested, I’ll probably grow more next year, just because I really like having fresh sage growing :)
