In this fascinating story, we follow Will, a mysterious immortal being who lives in a desolate and lonely landscape, where his mission is to select the souls who will have the opportunity to be born on Earth.

Will, played by Winston Duke, must evaluate nine candidates over the course of nine days, subjecting them to emotional and ethical tests to determine who is prepared to face the complexities of human life.

As Will observes the candidates through a magic mirror that allows him to view their past and future lives, he is plunged into an emotional and philosophical journey that leads him to question his own existence and his role in the universe.

With each candidate representing a different facet of humanity, the film explores deep themes such as empathy, identity, memory and the importance of each life in the fabric of the universe.

Throughout the nine days, Will interacts with the candidates in unique ways, challenging them to reflect on their past choices and future dreams, while he himself confronts his own inner demons.

Directed with profound grace and vision by Edson Oda, it earned widespread critical acclaim during its Sundance premiere.

At Sundance it took home the U.S. Dramatists' Special Jury Award for Vision and Craft, just reward for its intimate storytelling prowess.

During awards season, it received Independent Spirit Award nominations for Best Picture and Best Director.

Although released in August 2021 theatrically and digitally amid COVID turmoil, it grossed a respectable $2.6 million on a $6 million budget.

The lead, Winston Duke, delivered a tremendously moving and nuanced performance that earned him numerous accolades.
