The Real Cause

Of course we're still bombarded with daily news that reminds us that we're firmly in the post January 6th world; I myself am still posting about it and all the media, mainstream and not mainstream, are still reporting about the aftermath of the storming of the Capitol...

Most of this reporting, including my own, is about how sad and shameful an event it was. We shouldn't mince words and call it exactly what it was; a violent attempt at a coupe, a domestic terrorist act by the Trump supporters who acted on his invitation. And it's good to see that this event is largely condemned and that Trump's actions and violence inciting words are condemned as well. However, it's so sad and frustrating to see that almost no one, certainly not in the mainstream media, is willing or able to call out the real cause of all this ugliness. I've tried, again, in my last two posts, Bonding With Strangers and The Hollow Whole, hint at this cause, and if you've read and understood them as intended, you know that Trump's presidency or his behavior after the elections in November 2020 is not the cause of all this; Trump and Trumpism are merely the straw that broke the camel's back.

It's good to get rid of Trump and therefore it's good that Biden won the elections fair and square (no, don't deny this after more than 60 judges from both sides have ruled the elections to have been fair; by now you're only making a fool of yourself). But make no mistake: Biden's plan for uniting the country and to return to "normalcy" will fail, even if it succeeds. For if it succeeds we'll be back to the state of affairs that cultivated the collective state of mind that produced the presidency of a fascistoid man-baby who managed to align most of the Republican party to his fascistoid ways. Before Trump America had one party that could at least keep up the appearance of being built on conservative ideals, but Trump has managed to rip that veil away and America now has one party that has exposed itself as an authoritarian one.

The Republicans who resigned after the events of January 6th are no heroes but cowards. Chad Wolf, Betsy DeVos, Elaine Chao, Mick Mulvaney, Matthew Pottinger, Tyler Goodspeed, John Costello and many others have chosen to flee from a sinking ship to save their own face, instead of staying and using their power to help get rid of Trump. Their resignation is a signal that they indeed believe this man is unfit to serve under, isn't it? Why not stay then, to help vote for impeachment or the 25th amendment? Unless you don't think he's unfit but you just want to protect your own career opportunities. Really, you're the worst kind of people, you didn't resign or speak up against Great Orange Leader when he was spreading the lies that led to the violent attacks on the Capitol, but now your own cushy position or your own life is threatened you suddenly decide that Trump is not someone you want to serve under... Cowards.

But like I said in the beginning, there are two parties responsible for creating the circumstances that made this extraordinary event even possible, and both parties are loyal servants of the neoliberal capitalist economic system that made their people miserable enough to vote in a failed authoritarian. The Democrats are as corporatist as the Republicans, they're just not fascist themselves, but are equally responsible for the rise of fascism in America. I just hope that there are enough Americans to recognize that the ones who were at the front of the storming of the Capitol, the ones who organized it weeks and months ahead on online platforms, are the modern equivalents of the brownshirts in Germany in the 1930s. It's not enough to talk about unity and reconciliation; there have to be consequences for the ones at the top and there has to be a discussion about capitalism's rot at its core. Fascism is capitalism in decay, it's the capitalists reaching at the last straw to safeguard the status quo, and they do not care which party or by which methods this is done. It's not Trump, it's not a Satanic cabal of pedophiles and it's not George Soros or any other Jews... Listen, and listen well to Richard Wolff as he explains how capitalists, capitalism, consumerism, individualism and careerism are the real underlying culprits here...
