Uno de los proyectos más hermosos que se pueden llevar a cabo en la vida es el hecho de crear una familia. ¿Habías pensado en eso? Y es que todo empieza desde la unión de dos personas que en base a un sentimiento compartido deciden llevar a cabo sus vidas unidos el uno al otro. Si este es tu caso, se puede decir que ya has emprendido el proyecto más interesante que se pueda pensar, y si eres de los que aún estás en ese proceso, pues desde ya te deseo lo mejor. Pero, ¿Qué hay de emprender un negocio familiar?
Esta pregunta surgió en una conversación que sostuve con una prima mía. Recuerdo que al hablar de su trabajo y lo que hace para poderse mantener, enseguida mencionó lo bueno que habría sido para todos nosotros emprender algún negocio donde pudiéramos trabajar y colaborar en familia. Realmente yo nunca lo había pensado, pero después de escucharla le dí toda la razón, y empezamos a debatir en cuanto a la posible razón por la cual esto jamás se llevó a cabo. Después de charlar mucho, comprendimos que la causa principal fue la falta de motivación e iniciativa para dar inicio a dicho plan familiar.
En este aspecto, he llegado a conocer muchos negocios y empresas que hoy se sostienen desde un núcleo familiar que hasta se han manejado desde una o varias generaciones. Esto no es más que un maravilloso ejemplo de constancia, trabajo y dedicación que los ha llevado a tener éxito en un mundo tan cambiante y difícil donde hoy todo puede estar muy bien, pero mañana no sabes lo que puede ocurrir. No necesariamente tiene que estar toda la familia involucrada en el trabajo, pero que bonito es cuando todos son familiares cercanos o lejanos que trabajan para un propósito y un bienestar en conjunto.

But what about starting a family business?
This question came up in a conversation I had with a cousin of mine. I remember that when talking about her work and what she does to support herself, she immediately mentioned how good it would have been for all of us to start a business where we could work and collaborate as a family. I had never really thought about it, but after listening to her I agreed with her, and we began to discuss the possible reason why this never happened. After much discussion, we realized that the main cause was the lack of motivation and initiative to initiate such a family plan.
In this aspect, I have come to know many businesses and companies that today are sustained from a family nucleus that have even been managed from one or several generations. This is nothing more than a wonderful example of perseverance, hard work and dedication that has led them to succeed in such a changing and difficult world where today everything may be fine, but tomorrow you do not know what may happen. The whole family does not necessarily have to be involved in the work, but how nice it is when all are close or distant relatives working for a common purpose and well being.
¿Cuál sería el mejor momento para emprender? ¡Ahora! Ya sea que tengas una familia establecida o estés dando tus primeros pasos, no hay mejor manera para empezar que desde el mismo presente. Obviamente no es algo que se toma a la ligera, pero si con la prontitud y la diligencia necesaria. Cada familia es totalmente única, así que cualquier trabajo o proyecto que desees emprender también lo será, así que es muy importante que desde el mismo inicio se establezca el fundamento y el propósito de lo que deseas alcanzar a través de dicho proyecto.
Cuando hablamos de un negocio familiar, surgen opiniones divididas. Hay algunos que suelen llevarse con total éxito y satisfacción a lo largo del tiempo, mientras que otros no dejan de generar estrés y preocupaciones que parecen truncar un poco el desarrollo del mismo. Incluso muchos rechazan la idea de un negocio familiar, afirmando que es mucho mejor trabajar con alguien que no sea un familiar cercano ni lejano, ya que de ser así pues siempre habrá un problema latente que no te dejará progresar y alcanzar lo que quieres.
Entender que cada cosa tiene su lugar y su tiempo es clave para poder emprender un negocio. La familia y el trabajo deben compaginar y mantener un margen que no afecte el uno al otro. No debemos dejar que el trabajo afecte a la familia, ni que las diferencias familiares echen a perder el trabajo que estamos realizando. Lamentablemente muchos no han podido mantener las cosas en su lugar, y por ende las consecuencias no han sido nada favorable, llevando a la desunión y la apatía en la familia, y el quiebre total de un negocio que parecía ser una excelente opción en su momento.
When would be the best time to start a business? Now! Whether you have an established family or are just taking your first steps, there is no better way to start than right now. Obviously it's not something that is taken lightly, but with the alacrity and diligence necessary. Every family is totally unique, so any job or project you wish to undertake will be as well, so it is very important that from the very beginning you establish the foundation and purpose of what you wish to achieve through that project.
When we talk about a family business, opinions are divided. There are some that are usually carried out with total success and satisfaction over time, while others do not fail to generate stress and concerns that seem to truncate a little the development of the same. Many even reject the idea of a family business, stating that it is much better to work with someone who is not a close or distant relative, because if so, there will always be a latent problem that will not let you progress and achieve what you want.
Understanding that everything has its place and time is key to start a business. Family and work must combine and maintain a margin that does not affect each other. We must not let work affect the family, nor let family differences spoil the work we are doing. Unfortunately many have not been able to keep things in place, and therefore the consequences have not been favorable, leading to disunity and apathy in the family, and the total breakdown of a business that seemed to be an excellent option at the time.
Se necesita tener una unión de criterios basados en la responsabilidad, el respeto, la puntualidad y el compromiso sincero a la hora de llevar a cabo un trabajo en familia. Tal como la confianza mantiene sólida a una familia, también puede fortalecer a un equipo de trabajo enfocado en el bienestar general. De manera responsable y firme, reconocer que si hay unas fallas hay que rectificar y mejorar, sin caer en el sentimentalismo que nos lleve a desarrollar un trato o una actitud que no sume nada bueno al trabajo en cuestión. Poniéndome en el lugar de los hijos, es como ver a tu madre o a tu padre en el rol de tus jefes y mantener una conducta ejemplar que pueda agradar a ambos.
Un trabajo familiar nos puede dar ventajas que van desde la forma sobre cómo podemos organizar nuestro tiempo hasta el hecho de manejar ciertas eventualidades que pueden surgir y afectarnos en sentido laboral. Si hay compromiso, también habrá confianza, lo cual puede contribuir a un ambiente agradable que nos permita disfrutar del trabajo que hacemos y llevarnos bien con nuestros compañeros de trabajo. En este aspecto, se puede decir que son los mismos principios que aplicamos para lograr la felicidad y la armonía dentro del núcleo familiar, y que ahora queremos plasmar en nuestro lugar de trabajo.
Hoy en día pienso que emprender un negocio familiar, más que una opción es una valiosa oportunidad que todos tenemos para llevar a cabo nuestros proyectos, esos que quizás en algún momento tan solo fueron ideas aisladas pero que ahora se presentan como una realidad bastante viable. Muchos han emprendido desde su propio hogar, y hoy son personas exitosas que han logrado impulsar su trabajo con la ayuda y el apoyo de la familia, así que ante estos dos grandes proyectos de emprendimiento (la familia y el trabajo) encontramos una razón de peso para crecer en conjunto y de forma muy especial.
It is necessary to have a union of criteria based on responsibility, respect, punctuality and sincere commitment when carrying out a job as a family. Just as trust keeps a family strong, it can also strengthen a work team focused on the general welfare. In a responsible and firm way, recognizing that if there are some faults we must rectify and improve, without falling into sentimentalism that leads us to develop a treatment or an attitude that does not add anything good to the work in question. Putting myself in the place of the children, it is like seeing your mother or father in the role of your bosses and maintaining an exemplary behavior that can please both of them.
A family job can give us advantages ranging from the way we can organize our time to the fact of handling certain eventualities that may arise and affect us in a work sense. If there is commitment, there will also be trust, which can contribute to a pleasant environment that allows us to enjoy the work we do and get along well with our co-workers. In this aspect, it can be said that these are the same principles that we apply to achieve happiness and harmony within the family nucleus, and that we now want to translate into our workplace.
Today I think that starting a family business, more than an option, is a valuable opportunity that we all have to carry out our projects, those that perhaps at some point were only isolated ideas but now are presented as a quite viable reality. Many have started from their own home, and today are successful people who have managed to promote their work with the help and support of the family, so before these two great projects of entrepreneurship (family and work) we find a compelling reason to grow together and in a very special way.
