You carry the passport to your own happiness.
-- Diane von Furstenberg
About the Quote
The world is filled with both good and bad-- people, events, things, ideas. While we can't ignore the negative around us, dwelling on it for longer than necessary is asking to be miserable or worse.
For whatever is within our control, we fix what we can and for what we can't we leave it either better than how he found it or at least as-is.
For whatever is beyond our control-- which is everything else-- there is no point in expending energy on it.
Knowing these limitations, we can choose to be happy or not. Some unhappiness is to be expected, as in getting fired from a good job or getting an unexpected tax liability. However, as soon as we deal with that unhappiness we can choose to work toward being happy again, or we can wallow in misery and unhappiness and then have nothing to show for it except wated time and energy.
So choose to be happy!
