Mi nombre es Henry Cabrera, soy médico veterinario graduado en la Universidad Central de Venezuela. Nací un 10 de abril del año 1967, en una pequeña ciudad del estado Aragua llamada El Consejo, en Venezuela. Les cuento que nací en la casa donde vivían mis padres, (Cirilo mi papa ya fallecido y Blanca mi madre de 77 años quien me ha enceñado mucho) ya que no fui atendido en una maternidad por alguna gineco obstetra, sino por una partera o comadrona muy experta de esa localidad, que atendió también los anteriores cuatro parto de mi madre y solo mi hermano menor (el sexto hijo), nació en un hospital. Aunque pareciera difícil, esta situación era muy común por estos tiempos y en este lugar, de hecho no tuvimos complicación alguna al nacimiento, ni tampoco mi madre. Yo soy el quinto de los seis hermanos, somos tres varones y tres hembras.
My name is Henry Cabrera, I am a veterinarian graduated from the Central University of Venezuela. I was born on April 10, 1967, in a small town in the state of Aragua called El Consejo, in Venezuela. I tell you that I was born in the house where my parents lived (Cirilo, my deceased father, and Blanca, my 77 year old mother, who has taught me a lot), since I was not attended in a maternity ward by an obstetrician-gynecologist, but by a very expert midwife of that town, who also attended the previous four births of my mother and only my younger brother (the sixth child) was born in a hospital. Although it may seem difficult, this situation was very common in these times and in this place, in fact we did not have any complications at birth, neither did my mother. I am the fifth of six siblings, three boys and three girls.
Mi padre fué una persona muy humilde, de pocos recursos económicos, obrero fabril que cumplía con sus obligaciones del hogar y la familia, fallecido en el año 1986. Mi madre está con vida y muy buena salud, ella es ama de casa y una excelente administradora del hogar.
My father was a very humble person, with few economic resources, a factory worker who fulfilled his home and family obligations, who passed away in 1986. My mother is alive and in good health, she is a housewife and an excellent home administrator.
La educación primaria la realicé en un colegio público en esa misma localidad, llamado Unidad Educativa Nacional Juan Uslar, igualmente la mitad de la secundaria estudié en el liceo Manuel Cipriano Pérez de El Consejo. El resto del bachillerato lo culmine en la ciudad de La Victoria, ciudad donde en 1814 se llevó a cabo la famosa batalla de la Juventud (parte de la gesta de independencia nacional), y de cuyo prócer el, General José Félix Ribas, lleva su epónimo el liceo donde obtuve el título de bachiller en el año 1985.Siempre tenía pensado estudiar Medicina Veterinaria, sueño que alcance al graduarme en el año 1993, en la mejor universidad del país 8 la Universidad Central de Venezuela). Allí tuve el interés de profundizar conocimientos sobre el ámbito de industria de la carne y tecnología de la carne. También realicé un seminario sobre una enfermedad que se llama ehrlichiosis canina: es una enfermedad infecciosa grave causada por la bacteria Ehrlichia Canis y transmitida por las garrapatas. Es encontrada a nivel mundial y su distribución geográfica está relacionada con la ubicación de la garrapata Rhipicephalus Sanguineus, la cual transmite la enfermedad. (Más adelante volveré a referirme sobre esta enfermedad, para comentarles una infausta situación acontecida hace poco).
I did my primary education in a public school in the same town, called Unidad Educativa Nacional Juan Uslar, and half of my secondary education at the Manuel Cipriano Pérez high school in El Consejo. I finished the rest of my high school in the city of La Victoria, the city where in 1814 the famous battle of La Juventud (part of the national independence) took place, and whose hero, General José Félix Ribas, was named after the high school where I obtained my high school diploma in 1985. I had always planned to study Veterinary Medicine, a dream I achieved when I graduated in 1993, at the best university in the country (Universidad Central de Venezuela). There I had the interest to deepen my knowledge in the field of meat industry and meat technology. I also attended a seminar on a disease called canine ehrlichiosis: it is a serious infectious disease caused by the bacterium Ehrlichia Canis and transmitted by ticks. It is found worldwide and its geographical distribution is related to the location of the tick Rhipicephalus Sanguineus, which transmits the disease (I will return to this disease later, to tell you about an unfortunate situation that happened recently).
Después de graduado pasé muchos años trabajando en los centros de sacrificio de animales (mataderos), haciendo clasificación e inspección de canales bovinas de carne. Realicé un curso de especialización en tecnología de la carne en Bogotá, Colombia en el año 2000 y prácticas en esta misma área en Brasil, en el 2004. La veterinaria es una profesión muy extensa que abarca los campos de la producción, salud pública, clínica, investigación entre otros.
After graduation, I spent many years working in slaughterhouses, grading and inspecting bovine meat carcasses. I did a specialization course in meat technology in Bogota, Colombia in 2000 and an internship in the same area in Brazil in 2004. Veterinary medicine is a very broad profession that encompasses the fields of production, public health, clinical, research and others.
En el año 1996 me casé, tuve dos hermosos hijos, un varón que es el mayor, se llama Simón Antonio y una hembra nombre María José. Llevo 5 años separados legalmente de la madre de mis hijos, María Lizzy Oropeza.
In 1996 I got married, I had two beautiful children, a boy who is the eldest, his name is Simon Antonio and a girl named Maria Jose. I have been legally separated for 5 years from the mother of my children, Maria Lizzy Oropeza.
El 25 de febrero de 2022, es decir este año, mi hija María José fallece con apenas 16 años recién cumplidos. Le habían diagnosticado aplasia de médula ósea hacia un mes. Aunque acudimos de inmediato a la asistencia médica, la inspeccionaron cuatro hematólogos de los más calificados, estando casi tres semanas hospitalizada, no fue posible su recuperación, su salud fue empeorando hasta pasar a la terapia intensiva, área donde solo estuvo 4 días antes de fallecer.
On February 25, 2022, that is, this year, my daughter María José passed away at the age of just 16. She had been diagnosed with bone marrow aplasia a month earlier. Although we went immediately to the medical assistance, she was inspected by four of the most qualified hematologists, being hospitalized for almost three weeks, it was not possible her recovery, her health was worsening until she went to the intensive care unit, area where she was only 4 days before she died.
Con el corazón compungido, por el profundo dolor que hoy siento y que no se termina jamás, desde que el 25 de febrero a las 23:20, momento en que recibí la terrible noticia, que marcó mi vida para siempre, no dejo de pensar en Mi maría José, en todos los sueños y planes que teníamos y que habíamos conversado juntos para su futuro. No hay nada que haga de ahora en adelante que no sea pensando en ella. María José fue un ser dulce, tierno, amorosa como ninguna, comprensiva y valiente hasta su último momento, solidaria, inteligente, con una voz prodigiosa cuando interpretaba cualquier canción.
With a heavy heart, because of the deep pain that I feel today and that will never end, since February 25 at 11:20 p.m., when I received the terrible news that marked my life forever, I can't stop thinking about my María José, about all the dreams and plans that we had and that we had discussed together for her future. There is nothing I do from now on without thinking of her. María José was sweet, tender, loving like no other, understanding and brave until her last moment, supportive, intelligent, with a prodigious voice when she interpreted any song.
Una semana antes de su partida física, decidí practicarle un examen de laboratorio, para lo cual le solicité a la enfermera que me colaborara con la extracción de una muestra de sangre de mi hija. Este muestra de sangre la llevé a un laboratorio veterinario, donde solicité una prueba de despistaje de holoparásitos, ya que hay algunas zoonosis (enfermedades de los animales que se transmiten a los humanos), que causas síntomas similares.
A week before her physical departure, I decided to perform a laboratory test, for which I asked the nurse to help me with the extraction of a blood sample from my daughter. I took this blood sample to a veterinary laboratory, where I requested a holoparasite screening test, since there are some zoonoses (animal diseases that are transmitted to humans), which cause similar symptoms.
El estudio realizado resulto positivo a Anasplasma platys, una rickettsia con características muy similares a la Erlhiquia, tema del seminario que me tocó dirigir como estudiante de veterinaria y que ya señalé al inicio de esta biografía. Con el resultado en la mano conversé con cuatro de los hematólogos que atendían a mi hija, además de la médico residente y la doctora de medicina interna, con la esperanza de que le aplicaran el tratamiento respectivo para esta parasitosis y así, mi hija, recuperara la salud. Cabe destacar que el tratamiento para estos hemoparásitos es una tetraciclina de uso común: doxiciclina de 100 mg, que además es un antibiótico muy económico en nuestro país. Todos los estudios e investigaciones indican que en las primeras 48 horas de haber comenzado el tratamiento, los pacientes se recuperan rápidamente.
The study was positive for Anasplasma platys, a rickettsia with characteristics very similar to Erlichiosis, the subject of the seminar that I had to direct as a veterinary student and which I mentioned at the beginning of this biography. With the result in hand, I spoke with four of the hematologists who were attending my daughter, in addition to the resident physician and the internal medicine doctor, in the hope that they would apply the respective treatment for this parasitosis and thus, my daughter would recover her health. It should be noted that the treatment for these hemoparasites is a commonly used tetracycline: doxycycline 100 mg, which is also a very inexpensive antibiotic in our country. All studies and research indicate that in the first 48 hours after starting the treatment, patients recover quickly.
Ninguno de los médicos accedieron a creer que esa podía ser la causa de la enfermedad de mi hija y aunque les insistí muchas veces, siempre se negaron a la administración del antibiótico. Solo el día 24 de febrero en horas de la tarde, me solicitaron comprar la doxicilina, pero no fue posible adminístrarsela a mi hija, por el grave deterioro de su salud. No pretendo con esto sino alertar a que debemos estar tan atentos a esta patología y otras enfermedades que se trasmiten de los animales a los seres humanos y que pueden ser diagnosticadas a tiempo y tratadas eficazmente. No existe en el protocolo de la medicina en nuestros hospitales, la realización del despistaje de hemoparásitos, examen de laboratorio sencillo, con solo una muestra de sangre y que puede conllevar a salvar muchas vidas.
None of the doctors agreed to believe that this could be the cause of my daughter's illness and although I insisted many times, they always refused to administer the antibiotic. Only on February 24 in the afternoon, they asked me to buy doxycycline, but it was not possible to administer it to my daughter, due to the serious deterioration of her health. I do not intend with this but to alert that we must be as attentive to this pathology and other diseases that are transmitted from animals to humans and that can be diagnosed in time and treated effectively. The medical protocol in our hospitals does not include the screening for hemoparasites, a simple laboratory test, with only a blood sample, which can save many lives.
Existen muchas investigaciones sobre esta enfermedad, que se trasmite con la picadura de una garrapata infectada, pero hoy quiero llamar la atención a los estudios publicados por la Licenciada Yrene Maury de Tamí, madre de un colega, que dedicó varios años al estudio de estos parásitos y su presencia en humanos. Seguramente sobre este tema tendré que profundizar mucho mas para llamar la atención de la importancia de conocer de las consecuencias de esta enfermedad y, también comentaré sobre una anécdota al respecto, pero en otra entrega.
There is a lot of research on this disease, which is transmitted by the bite of an infected tick, but today I would like to draw attention to the studies published by Yrene Maury de Tamí, mother of a colleague, who dedicated several years to the study of these parasites and their presence in humans. Surely I will have to go much deeper into this subject to draw attention to the importance of knowing the consequences of this disease and I will also comment on an anecdote about it, but in another installment.
He trabajado en el ministerio de agricultura del país, también en una importante institución pública como lo es la Corporación Venezolana de Guayana en el estado Bolívar. Además pude incursionar a la política, saliendo electo diputado estadal en el año 2004. En ese cargo de diputado impulse propuestas para el desarrollo agropecuario del estado Aragua, logrando incrementar el presupuesto crediticio para los productores agropecuarios. Fué sin duda una extraordinaria experiencia combinada con mis conocimientos profesionales.
I have worked in the Ministry of Agriculture of the country, also in an important public institution such as the Corporación Venezolana de Guayana in the state of Bolivar. I was also able to enter politics, being elected state deputy in 2004. In that position I promoted proposals for the agricultural development of the state of Aragua, managing to increase the credit budget for agricultural producers. It was undoubtedly an extraordinary experience combined with my professional knowledge.
Por otra parte, fui también asesor de la Secretaría Ejecutiva del ALBA-TCP, revisando los proyectos de las empresas Gran Nacionales en Nicaragua y Centroamérica, experiencia que me formó en el desempeño diplomático. He sido escritor de artículos de opinión en algunos diarios en el país, valga decir en la prensa local: el siglo, El Aragueño, El Clarín entre otros. Me gusta investigar y escribir sobre distintos temas, sobre temas de mi profesión, sobre economía, desarrollo, producción e historia.
On the other hand, I was also an advisor to the Executive Secretariat of ALBA-TCP, reviewing the projects of the Gran Nacionales companies in Nicaragua and Central America, an experience that trained me in the diplomatic performance. I have been a writer of opinion articles in some newspapers in the country, in the local press: El siglo, El Aragueño, El Clarín, among others. I like to research and write about different topics, about my profession, about economy, development, production and history.
Estar involucrado en Hive con la diversidad de comunidades que allí concurren es un honor y un reto, ya que me interesa leer, revisar y opinar sobre distintos temas y aportar con mis escritos también. La dinámica y los contenidos que por acá se publican, que las comunidades aportan son de interés para cada sector y podemos decidir dónde involucrarnos, dónde participar según nuestro criterio, además de compartir y hacer muchos amigos.
Being involved in Hive with the diversity of communities that concur there is an honor and a challenge, since I am interested in reading, reviewing and giving my opinion on different topics and contributing with my writings as well. The dynamics and the contents that are published here, that the communities contribute are of interest to each sector and we can decide where to get involved, where to participate according to our criteria, in addition to sharing and making many friends.
En mis innumerables actividades también soy locutor comunitario, habiendo realizado programas radiales en distintas emisoras desde hace 20 años, experiencia que me ha permitido entrevistar a empresarios, educadores, deportista, músicos, alcaldes, diputados, diplomáticos, organizaciones vecinales, rectores y profesores universitarios entre otros. Me gusta cocinar, leer, investigar, promover debates y propuestas comunitarias, ayudar a la organización social.
In my countless activities I am also a community broadcaster, having conducted radio programs in different radio stations for 20 years, experience that has allowed me to interview businessmen, educators, athletes, musicians, mayors, deputies, diplomats, neighborhood organizations, university rectors and professors among others. I like cooking, reading, researching, promoting debates and community proposals, helping social organization.
Espero que en Hive tengan correspondencia los escritos que con mucho entusiasmo voy a colocar, que puedan ser comprendidos, comentados, criticados, recibir orientaciones porque vivimos en un aprendizaje permanente. Saludos a toda la familia Hive.
