My name is Sonia Coromoto Pirona Salazar Peña Navarro, this is how I remember introducing myself as a child, maybe when I was 6, 7 or 9 years old. I feel I remember the satisfaction of saying it, almost shouted. It was as if I really discovered myself, as if I became flesh, as if I occupied a real space. I think I see the look of joy on my parents' faces when they saw me and heard me chant the string of my full name.
My dad and mom gave me Coromoto as a companion. Coromoto was the first Native American who saw the Virgin in Venezuela and that is why they named the beloved divinity Coromoto, who is the patron saint of my country.
I have always liked to speak and write. Many of the punishments I received during my early years were for not stopping talking, jumping, laughing or shouting. I was given nicknames like "Guacharaca", which I hated deeply, until one of these days I realized that this boisterous bird sings announcing the sunrise and sunset every day. It was then that my feelings about myself took a 180-degree turn from hatred to deep appreciation. I was also called "bochinche", synonym of "boisterous", which is widely used in my country to define having a good time during a situation or any event that causes laughter or disorder.
It became my professional destiny because I am a writer, a character that, according to Roland Barthes, a French linguist, is defined "not as a sacred individual, but as someone who experiences some pleasure in writing and following that pleasure". (Roland Barthes, "The Grain of the Voice" pp 202). Within that path I am a Social Communicator (UCV), I worked passionately as a reporter within the first experience of economic journalism in Venezuela, Diario Reporte de la Economía, the first newspaper dedicated to economic information in my country, which was a great challenge because, in addition to the fact that I liked writing, I studied Social Communication because there was no mathematics. Numbers and I are not good friends, we could rather say that we got in each other's way. After that experience in journalism, I had the honor of working with Italo Pizzolante Negrón, who successfully initiated formally the area of Corporate Communication in the country.
One of those days, when I was shining in my professional career, I felt totally disoriented, as if nothing I was doing made sense. A deep existential depression took me by surprise. In my head, I think for the first time, existential questions exploded, such as: Who am I, what do I want to do, who do I want to be with, questions that led me to a deep spiritual quest. It was then that I seriously started holistic trainings, some of which I still follow such as meditation, conscious and connected breathing of energy, Biodanza, yoga, tai chi and a good etcetera.
With Biodanza, an affective system of organic renewal, which enhances our innate abilities and recovers confidence in love as a path to a new and better humanity, through music, movement and group encounters. After almost four years of studies at the Metropolitan School of Biodanza, Caracas, Venezuela, I graduated as a Biodanza teacher. Together with my fellow student Omaira Calderón we integrate Bio.Miradas Acompañamiento Holístico. We give Biodanza classes in different places in Caracas. This activity is one of my purposes of social action, it is my contribution to the creation of a better, more loving and happy society.
A year ago I trained as a Writing and Editing Mentor. I love -and I know how to do it-, to support people who want to write with my knowledge of the Latin American Spanish language, which I have enriched throughout my work as a writer, joining my knowledge and resources of holistic support to the being. Mentoring seen in this way is deeply loving.
I am currently writing a book about the cosmogony around Cocuy, an ancestral drink that the Native Americans of Venezuela made five thousand years ago before Europeans arrived in the Americas looking for India.
And now I am in this new challenge of Hive at my 70th birthday, last March 15th I climbed to the seventh floor of my proudly lived existence. I am aware that this world I am entering is essentially a youthful one, but I have never been afraid of generation gaps, so I will be grateful for all the help you can give to my head full of gray hair painted blue. I am also at the service of those who want to improve their writing.

Mi papá y mi mamá me dieron a Coromoto como acompañante. Coromoto fue el primer nativo americano que vio la Virgen en Venezuela y por eso a la amada divinidad le dieron por nombre Coromoto, quien es la patrona de mi país.
Me gusta hablar y escribir desde siempre. Muchos de los castigos que recibí durante mis primeros años fueron por no parar de hablar, brincar, reír o gritar. Me pusieron sobrenombres como “Guacharaca”, el cual odié profundamente, hasta que un día de estos me di cuenta que esta ave bulliciosa canta anunciando al amanecer y al atardecer todos los días. Fue entonces cuando mis sentimientos hacia mí misma dieron un vuelco de 180 grados, pues de odio pasé a un profundo agradecimiento. También me decían “bochinche”, sinónimo de alboroto, que es muy usado en mi país para definir que se está pasando muy bien durante una situación o un evento cualquiera que provoque risa o desorden.
De palabra se hizo mi destino profesional porque soy escritora, personaje que, según Roland Barthes, un lingüista francés, se define “no como un individuo sagrado, sino como alguien que experimenta algún goce en escribir y seguir ese placer”. (Roland Barthes, “El grano de la voz” pp 202). Dentro de ese camino soy Comunicadora Social (UCV), trabajé apasionadamente como reportera dentro de la primera experiencia de periodismo económico en Venezuela, Diario Reporte de la Economía, el primer periódico dedicado a la información económica en mi país, lo cual fue un gran desafío porque, además de que me gustaba escribir, estudié Comunicación Social porque no había matemáticas. Los números y yo no somos buenos amigos, más bien podríamos decir que nos entorpecemos en el camino. Después de esa experiencia en el diarismo, tuve el honor de trabajar con Italo Pizzolante Negrón, quien exitosamente inició formalmente el área de Comunicación Corporativa en el país.
Un día de esos, cuando brillaba en mi carrera profesional me sentí totalmente desorientada, como si nada de lo que estaba haciendo tuviera sentido. Una profunda depresión existencial me tomó de sorpresa. En mi cabeza, creo que por primera vez, explotaban preguntas existenciales como ¿Quién soy?, ¿Qué quiero hacer?, ¿Con quién quiero estar?... preguntas que me llevaron a una búsqueda espiritual profunda. Fue entonces que seriamente comencé formaciones holísticas, algunas de las cuales aún sigo como la meditación, la respiración consciente y conectada de la energía, Biodanza, yoga, taichí y un buen etcétera.
Con Biodanza, un Sistema afectivo de renovación orgánica, que potencia nuestras habilidades innatas y recupera la confianza en el amor como camino hacia una nueva y mejor humanidad, a través de la música, el movimiento y el encuentro en grupo. Después de casi cuatro años de estudios en la Escuela Metropolitana de Biodanza, Caracas, Venezuela, egresé como profesora de Biodanza. Junto con mi compañera de estudios Omaira Calderón integramos a Bio.Miradas Acompañamiento Holístico. Damos clases de Biodanza en distintos espacios de Caracas. Esta actividad es uno de mis propósitos de acción social, es mi contribución para la creación de una mejor sociedad, más amorosa y feliz.
Hace un año me formé como Mentora de Escritura y Edición. Me encanta -y lo sé hacer-, apoyar a las personas que desean escribir con mis conocimientos del idioma castellano latinoamericano, lo cual he enriquecido a lo largo de mi trabajo como escritora, uniendo mis conocimientos y recursos de apoyo holístico al ser. La mentoría vista de esta manera es profundamente amorosa.
En estos momentos estoy escribiendo un libro sobre la cosmogonía alrededor del Cocuy, una bebida ancestral que los nativos americanos de Venezuela hacían hace cinco mil años antes de que llegaran los europeos al continente americano buscando a la India.
Y ahora estoy en este nuevo desafío de Hive a mis 70 años recién cumplidos, el 15 de marzo pasado subí al séptimo piso de mi existencia orgullosamente vivida. Estoy consciente de que este mundo en donde me estoy metiendo es esencialmente juvenil, pero nunca le he tenido miedo a las brechas generacionales, así que agradeceré de corazón toda la ayuda que le puedan brindar a mi cabeza llenas de canas pintadas de azul. Así como también me pongo a las órdenes de quienes quieran mejorar su escritura.
