As Delicious As a Coffee Cocktail

"I'll kill him! I swear!" Shaniqua shouted in my apartment. She was lined with anger. I looked at her in amazement. Her face was burning with rage, I thought she would explode and spill off the walls.

"What happened? What's wrong with you?'' I asked her. She sat down on the couch and used her hand as a fan.

"I need something to calm me down or it will give me something," She asserted. I knew exactly what she needed, so I poured her a massive cup of coffee. She took a hurried sip, she didn't seem to mind that it was hot, but she was finally able to relax.

"Now yes, tell me, what happened?'' She took my hand and looked at me with sad eyes.

"Do you remember Justin, the one from apartment 5ª?"

How could I forget that little jerk. Justin is a nineteen-year-old, self-centered, narcissistic influencer who lives just upstairs. He thinks he's a big deal just because he has 3 million subscribers on his YouTube channel. He doesn't contribute anything interesting, he uploads content of him doing and saying stupid things about his life and other influencers. He was the typical young, irritating celebrity you wouldn't put up with for five minutes if you had him in front of you.

Shaniqua and I disliked him from the first time we met him. We found him to be an obnoxious guy; plus he would blast his silly videos at high volume, interrupting my concentration.

"Of course, sometimes he wakes me up in the wee hours of the morning with his silly gameplay streams," I replied.

"Well, don't get mad, but lately I've been hanging out with him."

"What? Since when?" I spat in astonishment.

"From two weeks ago, I thought I had misjudged him, but that guy is a piece of shit."

"Are you seriously talking to me, I can't believe it, Shaniqua!" I took a sip of coffee to pass the bitterness.

"I know... I know..., and you have every right to judge me, but that's not the worst of it..."

"What did you do, Shaniqua?" I could no longer bear this uncertainty in my chest.

"I entrusted him with my grandfather's family coffee cocktail recipe." My eyes rolled back and I released a sigh.

"Oh no...! Shaniqua, why?" she stood crestfallen without saying anything for a moment.

"It's just... I trusted his fake kindness and hypocritical charisma. I thought he was a nice guy. Dude, I'm so messed up, I can't believe how stupid I was. Yesterday afternoon, that jerk posted on his social media that he would post a video using the recipe so everyone could make it. He has already gained new followers and money from other sponsorships. He passed everything off as if it was his idea, he didn't even give me credit for it. I tried to contact him, but he blocked me from all his social networks, and even my messages didn't reach him. He's probably hiding in his other private apartment, which I don't know where it is. You don't know how angry and sad I am."

Shaniqua started crying, she couldn't even take another sip from her coffee cup. I tried to comfort her, but it was useless. I felt her very broken.

"Shani, we can't let that dirty rat get away with it, we have to do something!" I sentenced.

Suddenly, Shaniqua's face changed from sad to Machiavellian, and she cracked a smile with a laugh that slowly grew louder. I looked at her as if she was growing another head.

"Why are you laughing like that?" I asked her dumbfounded.

"Because we're going to witness Justin's ruin," she revealed. "I knew he was behind my recipe. I didn't trust him at all, so I set him up. I gave him a fake recipe with strange ingredients, and the fool took the bait. Now we have to wait... Oh, actually, he already posted the video half an hour ago."

We watched in haste from the Shaniqua phone as Justin prepared the cocktail and finally tasted it. You could see on his face that he pretended to like it, although he disguised it well. Soon, comments started coming out about the horrible cocktail, and a lot of hate against Justin started to emerge.

He was losing thousands of subscribers per second. Sponsoring companies stopped supporting him because of his 'bad joke'. On YouTube, many people unsubscribed from his channel; he went from 3 million subscribers to 2 million, then down to one and a half, and so on. This all happened in a matter of hours. Shaniqua and I were laughing as we witnessed the event.

"Oh my gosh! Girl, remember me never to betray you in life." I said as we both cackled, and at the same time enjoyed the rich coffee cocktail from the original recipe.
