Autumn by the River Walk

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to share a few photos I took recently walking down by the river!

Autumn by the River Walk

This river area is definitely one of my favorite places to be. The sad part, in some ways, is that I haven't been here really at all this summer or autumn, so I made sure to change that!

We used to come to this area all the time, as my son was going to regular tutoring appointments in the area so we had opportunities to spend some time along the river. That was really enjoyable but sadly we moved on from the tutoring program, so we no longer really needed to visit the area. We would drive by it every so often, but it wasn't in the cards to stop. I made it a point to stop the other day though, because I needed some autumn photos!

This is certainly a hidden gem of an area. It's about a mile long in this region, although it does extend further downstream but it's not as accessible as it is here. Upstream I haven't really explored it to it's culmination point but I think that it does go further.

With the mile long stretch though, it's got some amazing scenery along the way! We get to enjoy all kinds of bends and open spots on the river, really getting to see a lot of beautiful trees and scenery. The trees are pretty overgrown at this point, I do wonder what it was like 75 or 100 years ago. Was it cut for industrial stuff? Who knows, but right now things are coming back.

The interesting part about not visiting here for a while, and talking a walk where we were very familiar, is how the landscape has changed since we've been here. There are quite a few trees that have fallen since we were here last! It's wild for sure, because some of them were freaking big. With being right on the banks of the river though, there definitely tends to be some serious erosion that happens and what used to be solid ground is now a river, and the trees are slowly falling into the water. We saw a gigantic pine tree that was one we were a little annoyed with because we couldn't finish in the spot since it was just a snag for our line, but now the tree is gone although the tree is IN the water now.. making it not much better haha.

I definitely enjoyed the walking around the river park here though, I loved going here over the last few years to get some fresh air and open views of the little hidden gem of nature it presents. I think one of my favorite parts about it is the variety of trees and colors that it presents. Lots of maples of all different kinds, bringing out the beautiful reds and oranges, and plenty of beech, birch and dogwoods bringing out the fabulous yellows. It's definitely a beautiful thing even if we didn't get to go to the mountains to see the colors, I'm glad that I got to see them here!
