In the race there are a total of 8 runners and although the other 6 will be largely filler characters without much relevance or development in the story, for a moment it is about presenting quickly and with some background to each competitor to thus generate a little more empathy with them or at least not feel that the whole story is based solely on JP and Sonoshee along with 6 other faceless runners, serves to complement the varied aspect of the story to present a reality where there are very different beings and with very strange qualities.
The action moments of the race manage to be really shocking, exciting and entertaining, despite presenting the development of the protagonists and their past, the race manages to have practically half of the entire film and thus manages to impact the viewer a lot besides giving all the importance it deserves, it knows how to use the other runners in a good way to generate more excitement in the race and show some scenes that are not only the two protagonists running, also the end had a dramatic and somewhat romantic aspect that although it might seem predictable in the end turned out well done and it was not so easy to intuit it.
One of the most peculiar and striking aspects of RedLine is its animation design, it has a very intense and colorful style, full of constants between strong and vibrant colors, although the level of detail can not be very high due to its own age, for its time it was incredible, it manages to create a great visual impact at all times, when I saw it was impossible not to think of the style of cyberpunk edgerunners where it is possible that they have been inspired by RedLine for their animation. Tal vez uno de los géneros de animes de deportes que más me gusta son los de carreras, sin dudas el principal exponente de estos fue Speed Racer el cual llevaba las carreras a un nivel alucinante, hace poco mientras buscaba un anime de carreras para recordar esa época, me encontré con una gran obra que a pesar de ser antigua cuenta con el desarrollo de una gran casa de animación la cual incluso tantos años después podemos ver el gran talento que tiene. RedLine se trata de una película del año 2009 animada por Madhouse y que a pesar de contar con 15 años cuenta con una animación y estilo único, así como llamativo.
De una forma simple, esta película se puede interpretar como una mezcla de Mad Max mezclada con elementos de ciencia ficción típicos de Star Wars o Star Trek. Todo se basa en la famosa y aclamada carrera RedLine la cual viene siendo el pináculo de las carreras clandestinas, para poder participar en esta carrera se debe ganar alguna de las carreras previas que igual llevan nombres de colores y se corren en diferentes planetas, por esto tendremos una gran variedad de personajes al contar con el trasfondo de una sociedad universal unificada en donde diferentes especies de planetas distintos compiten en carreras mórateles y prácticamente sin reglas en donde las apuestas serán parte crucial de las mismas.
Nuestro protagonista será JP, un joven y noble corredor que desea llegar a la cima siendo el mejor de todos, pero que no comparte la idea de volver las carreras un campo de batalla por lo cual en su vehículo escoge llevar solo mejoras del motor y demás opciones para poder aumentar su velocidad, pero sin tener armas o demás métodos destinados a atacar o destruir a los competidores, luego de perder por muy poco y por acciones traicioneras la ultima carrera previa a RedLine frente a McLaren Sonoshee la otra protagonista, piensa que quedo por fuera de RedLine pero debido a un abandono de ultima hora consigue un cupo para la famosa carrera la cual ocurrirá en un planeta habitado por una especie de androides o robot basados en un gobierno dictatorial y bélico.
El desarrollo de la historia se basara principalmente en las motivaciones para convertirse en corredores tanto de JP y Sonoshee, como en su pasado y futura relación junto a Sonoshee en donde se creara una relación romántica entre ambos, del mismo modo se ira mostrando como se prepara todo para la gran carrera en donde claramente será un campo de batalla tanto por los corredores tratando de superar el uno al otro, como por parte del gobierno que tratara de evitar a toda costa que se realice la carrera en especial porque esto podría colocar en evidencia sus secretos y armas ocultas al tratarse de una sociedad enfocada en la guerra.
En la carrera son un total del 8 corredores y aunque los otros 6 serán en gran parte personajes de relleno sin mayor relevancia ni desarrollo en la historia, durante un momento se trata de presentar de forma rápida y con algo de trasfondo a cada competidor para de esta manera generar un poco mas de empatía con los mismo o al menos no sentir que toda la historia se basa únicamente en JP Y Sonoshee junto a otros 6 corredores sin rostro, sirve para complementar el aspecto tan variado de la historia al presentar un realidad en donde hay seres muy diferentes y con cualidades muy extrañas.
Los momentos de acción de la carrera consiguen ser realmente impactantes, emocionantes y entretenidos, a pesar de presentar el desarrollo de los protagonistas y su pasado, la carrera consigue tener prácticamente la mitad de toda la película y con ello consigue impactar mucho al espectador además de darle toda la importancia que se merece, se sabe utilizar de buena forma a los demás corredores para generar más emoción en la carrera y mostrar algunas escenas que no sean solo los dos protagonistas corriendo, además el final tuvo un aspecto dramático y algo romántico que aunque pudiera parecer predecible al final resulto bien hecho y no era tan fácil intuirlo.
Uno de los aspectos mas peculiares y llamativos de RedLine es su diseño de animación, cuenta con un estilo muy intenso y colorido, lleno de constantes entre colores fuertes y vibrantes, aunque el nivel de detalle no puede ser muy alto debido a su propia antigüedad, para su época era increíble, logra crear un gran impacto visual en todo momento, al verlo me fue imposible no pensar en el estilo de cyberpunk edgerunners en donde es posible que se hayan inspirado en RedLine para su animación. El estilo de RedLine junto con la nostalgia de su animación del 2009 logra crear un efecto único y especial.
Del mismo modo cuenta con un soundtrack bastante bueno, se utiliza de una forma sutil para acompañar bien las escenas de acción y toda la carrera, se usa de forma tal que todos los ruidos y sonidos de la escena estén por encima de la música y solo la logres escuchar si te concentras haciendo que acompañe todo de buena manera, pero sin robar protagonismos a las escenas. RedLine termina siendo una película muy entretenida y emociónate para ver, acompañada de la gran calidad de Madhouse
