So, to everyone who thought there was something drastically wrong with Buttercup, don't worry. It was a simple problem with the distributor that is now sorted.
One of the reasons we chose to travel in the Series over the Defender here is that they are so easy to fix.
Portugal also have a HUGE fan base for Series Landies so there's always someone to help find a part, invite you to their garage, or give you tips along the way.
We had the honour of visiting Alvarez Works in Lisboa where they insisted on looking at the dizzy for us and Jamie could just relax and talk Land Rovers, share gearbox fixing tips, and generally talk about the beauty, charm and practicality of these vehicles with the very passionate Ze Pedro.
You might have even seen some of his amazing photos on Instagram - check out @zepedroalvarez.
There's a couple of Land Rover restorers in Portugal. Cool And Vintage is the famous one. Ze used to work for them before branching off on his own. His favourite restorations are authentic, patina style, and he chooses his customers carefully. He would rather they used the cars rather than garage them.
He remembers his father having a Series round the farm, which is probably when his obsession started. But he was a lawyer first, only getting into Land Rovers probably through photographing them, and restoration came later.
How cool is the badge made of bullet casings and the original fire hydrant - not to a LR, but for the era, and will look amazing in a newly restored S1.
Ze isn't that concerned with making a ton of money. He does about 12 cars a year. His business is about passion and enjoying life.
Again we are reminded that it was a great idea to travel here in the Series. We have just connected with some great people.
With Love,
