Greetings to all! This is my first post on this interesting community that I discovered thanks to @galenkp. I haven't been on Hive for long, so I'm still getting to know the many communities out there; however, the concept of a community dedicated to the weekend simply seems wonderful to me, as well as entertaining and very original.
I hadn't posted anything before because I didn't know what to post, I mean, my weekends are often boring and monotonous. But if the point is to post something about the weekend, well, let's do it. You see, I work Monday through Friday and some Saturdays as well. Free time is something I don't have during the weekdays, so I take advantage of Saturday and Sunday to rest and do other kinds of activities that on work days I can't do.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who looks forward to the weekend to relax and get away from the routine. Many people associate the weekend with going out to the park, going out to eat at a restaurant, visiting friends, going to parties or visiting a tourist site. Current circumstances do not allow these activities to be done to the fullest, as they used to be; however, the weekend can also be associated with other types of activities, and one of those activities is the one I will talk about in this publication: working in the vegetable garden.

You see, in my backyard I have a vegetable garden with different types of crops. I usually plant vegetables that are harvested after three months, such as corn or beans; but I also have other types of plants such as tomatoes, onions, plantains or cassava (manioc). Planting the land and cultivating its produce is not an easy task, it is quite exhausting, it requires time and dedication. I can't work in my garden every day of the week, so I only do it during the weekend.
The land of my garden is small, so I don't have enough space to plant as much as I would like, so I decided to create a few raised garden bed and thus have more surface to plant. For a couple of weeks I had been buying the materials to build them, but this weekend I finally finished them.

One of the raised garden was built with mud blocks, while the other three were built with concrete blocks. I took soil from my own land to fill each bed, but I also used soil that a neighbor gave me from his own land. It was a really exhausting but satisfying task, considering the result.

In total, I built four beds where I plan to plant small, short-lived plants, such as scallions, peanuts, tomatoes, eggplant and spinach. I haven't planted much yet, because I'm still waiting for seeds, but I already have a few scallions that will be ready to harvest before long. In any case, I think this was a productive weekend, as I managed to finish this little project. Maybe next weekend I will do something just as productive here at home, as I have a few tires that I plan to use to make more beds, I will show you.

No llevo mucho tiempo en Hive, así que aún estoy conociendo la gran cantidad de comunidades que existen; sin embargo, el concepto de una comunidad dedicada al fin de semana simplemente me parece maravilloso, además de entretenido y muy original.
No había publicado nada anteriormente porque no sabía qué publicar, quiero decir, mis fines de semana con frecuencia son aburridos y monótonos. Pero si el asunto es publicar algo referente al fin de semana, pues vamos a hacerlo. Verán, trabajo de lunes a viernes y algunos sábados también. El tiempo libre es algo con lo que no cuento durante los días de semana, así que aprovecho el sábado y el domingo para descansar y hacer otro tipo de actividades que en los días laborales no puedo hacer.
Estoy seguro que no soy el único que espera el fin de semana para relajarse y salir de la rutina. Muchas personas asocian el fin de semana con salir al parque, salir a comer a algún restaurante, visitar amigos, ir a fiestas o visitar algún sitio turístico. Las circunstancias actuales no permiten que estas actividades se hagan a plenitud, como se hacían antes; sin embargo, el fin de semana también puede asociarse con otro tipo de actividades, y una de esas actividades es de la que hablaré en esta publicación: trabajar en el patio de la casa.

Verán, en mi patio tengo una huerto con distintos tipos de cultivos. Por lo general, siembro vegetales que se cosechan a los tres meses, como maíz o frijoles; pero también tengo otros tipos de plantas como tomate, cebolla, plátano o yuca (mandioca). Sembrar la tierra y cultivar su producto no es tarea sencilla, es bastante agotador, requiere de tiempo y dedicación. No puedo trabajar en mi huerto todos los días de la semana, así que solo lo hago durante el fin de semana.
El terreno de mi huerto es pequeño, por lo que no cuento con el espacio necesario para sembrar todo cuanto quisiera, por ello decidí crear unos cuantos bancales y así tener mayor superficie para sembrar. Desde hace un par de semanas había estado comprando los materiales para armarlos,pero este fin de semana finalmente los terminé.
Cosecha actual. Al fondo se aprecian las plantulas aún en crecimiento; Al frente, se observa el bancal recien construido con bloques de barro.
Uno de los bancales lo construí con bloques de barro, mientras que los otros tres los construí con bloques de concreto. Tomé tierra de mi propio terreno para rellenar cada bancal, pero también usé tierra que un vecino me regaló de su propio terreno. Fue una tarea realmente agotadora pero satisfactoria, considerando el resultado.

En total, construí cuatro bancales en donde planeo sembrar plantas pequeñas y de corta duración, como cebollines, maní, tomate, berenjena y espinaca. Aún no he sembrado mucho, porque aún estoy esperando por las semillas, pero ya tengo unos cuantos cebollines que dentro de poco tiempo estarán listos para cosechar. En cualquier caso, creo que este fue un fin de semana productivo,ya que logré terminar este pequeño proyecto. Tal vez el fin de semana que viene haga algo igual de productivo acá en casa, pues tengo unos cuantos neumáticos que planeo usar para hacer más bancales, ya se los mostraré.
