Samuel and the new ice age.

5:25 am. The alarm incessantly warned that it was time to start a new routine; and 4 minutes after a brief journey of introspection between myocardium and gray matter, Samuel opens his eyes, puts down his left foot, then his right, puts on both slippers and walks to the bathroom.

It's Monday, so it's time to change towels, he takes the one with week #3's mark, unfolds it and places it in the appropriate place while he removes the one from the previous week to fold it and place it in the laundry basket.

Between taking a bath, brushing his teeth, and eating breakfast he takes exactly 40 minutes, a perfect life is the one that takes advantage of every second. Since he was a child, Samuel has developed a strange habit in which he must have everything timed and calculated, this way he will always be ready for everything.

Winter is approaching, and as in previous years, Samuel prepares to stock the basement stores, so he can maintain his routine of winter menus without missing a single thing that is normally missing in the supermarkets in winter.

The only thing in Samuel's life that is not planned is what he eats, or at least not like everything else, because being a lover of cooking he always cooks something different, he decides every week how much time he will dedicate each day to a menu, and so he can choose from his recipe book that he has organized by time of preparation a menu according to his time.

For Samuel life is simple, everything is planned, even any setbacks are planned for him, or so he thought.

The winter was lasting a little longer than expected, first 2 days, then one more week and at this point when everyone starts to see a little strange what is happening, Samuel was already shopping in case by chance something out of the ordinary happened, you know, as the saying goes:

A man forewarned is worth two.

But nothing was as simple as a longer winter, scientists and astronomers noticed too late to do anything about it, that the Sun moved away from the planet one meter, something that was never foreseen and that I think a new era, that would never be solved. The Sun would only move away every 5000 years, until it left the solar system forever.

Once again, Samuel remembers all the events that happened previously before the new ice age that began 7 years ago, where his routine and simple life disappeared completely and so now he is only one of the few survivors.

Not for this reason life was simplified, while the new ice age was advancing, each person fought for their survival, and it is not that the most peaceful survived, so the few survivors either hide or go out to hunt whatever moves to continue living.

Samuel was one of the few who still retained his moral principles, but the world was no longer the same and he could not trust anyone. His home had now become a laboratory, where he was working on a way to reverse the global freeze.

As the last marshmallows circled in the last cup of chocolate, Samuel managed to create a device that could emit so much heat when released into the atmosphere that it would be able to emulate the heat that the sun had ceased to provide to return the planet to the seasons as they were known.

But at the moment when the world itself would be reunited and humanity would emerge again, a group of survivors desperate for food, detected noises in Samuel's basement, and would be capable of anything for food, and they were not willing to reason.

Samuel, sensing company approaching, had to make quick decisions, would he be able to survive and save humanity? If anything, we knew that he might have a backup plan, or perhaps this time, it would not be so and humanity was destined to meet its end once and for all.
