Mira's Dance to Victory |- The Ink Well Fiction Prompt #129

In a family of three is a young girl named Mira Morrill, an extraordinary dancer. Mira's passion for dancing started from childhood, and her dedication for dance has helped her in her journey of becoming a famous dancer.

In the sitting room gathered Lily, Vanessa Morrill, her mum, and Mr. Morrill, her dad, as they sat on the sofa watching a comedy show, unending laughter filling the air. Their laughter was interrupted by Mr. David, her dancing teacher.

"Hi Mira, hope you are having a fun-filled day off? Check your email; I sent a link for a dance competition to you. Go and read through to grasp the full gist."

"Aww, I'm so excited right now. Catch you later, let me check it out."

The line went dead as she turned to her parents, excited to share the good news with them.

"Mummy, daddy, guess what!"

"Let me guess, you won the best dancer in your dancing crew?"

"Fair try dad, but it is something greater than that. Mummy, your turn."

"Come on sweetheart, you know how bad I am when it comes to guessing, break the news already."

"Alright, my dancing teacher just called me to inform me of a Nationwide Dance Competition coming up, and winners would be offered scholarships to a famous dance academy, and he has sent me the form to register."

Excitement filled the air as they rejoiced with their kid. Together they sat, filling the registration form, making sure there were no mistakes until she clicked the submit button. The news of the Dance Competition spread like fire, giving room for more competitors. Mira was filled with fear that dancers from all walks of life would be there to showcase their unique talents.

"I know I can dance, but I'm nervous. What if I don't stand a chance to be among the first three?"

"Come on, don't underestimate yourself. We will begin training as soon as possible, and trust me, I will begin now to train you on something that will catch the souls of the audience. Your performance will give them reasons to love dancing," Mr. David encouraged Mira.

The motivation made her realize how great a dancer she is, and the height Mr. David's skills will take her. With that confidence, she was ready as she put on her dancing shoes, ready for rehearsal.

"In a competition, what catches the judges' attention is uniqueness and versatility. So, we are not going with already known steps. Let's go with classic and contemporary styles; this will help show your versatility," Mr. David said.

Their practice continued, and Mira's determination could be felt in her improvement in all the new steps Mr. David had taught her. Days turned into weeks, and Mr. David and Mira's parents were excited at her tireless efforts. The competition was just a countdown.

"Mum, dad, the competition will be coming up in five days from today, and I'm very scared. The way I am feeling right now, if I feel this way on the D-day, I will mess up."

"Come on, my angel, Mr. David is good at what he does. Trust what he has taught you and believe he's the greatest teacher."

"Mira, you know your dad is right. Don't let fear make you lose what is yours. You don't even know if those coming to compete with you have good dancing teachers. You are privileged to have one; don't let fear and tension take your trophy from you."

"Thanks, mum, thanks, Dad. I love you both."

"We love you too," they said as they hugged her.

It was the day of the competition; Mira woke up feeling sad as she knew her dad would not be there to see her perform.

"Dad, I'm not happy that you won't grace my performance today. But it's fine, I understand how pressing work can be. At least, mum will be there for me."

"I will try to finish my work on time before the commencement of the event. Before it's your turn to perform, I will be there."

He hugged her and left. As they got ready, Mira's mum was styling her hair when they heard a knock at the door. Mira went to the door and was surprised at who she saw.

"Dad, you are back? Did you forget something?"

"Maybe he has a surprise for us. Tell us honey, what's the surprise?"

"My babies, no dad in his right senses will not want to be present to cheer up her child in a great moment like this. I have taken a day off today. To make today more colorful, I decided to make this a surprise, so I left so early this morning not to the office but to look for this beautiful dancing shoes to compliment your look and give you all the confidence you need to make today what it should be."

"Aww, dad, you are making me want to cry. Thanks so much, I will just go change into it right now." Smiles filled the room as she made her way to her room while her parents hugged each other.
