Surprise Shift

The morning was cold, and I woke up feeling different from my usual self. I couldn't really tell what was behind my mood but i felt maybe it was the weather or my working all night trying to meet a deadline. I was just feeling heavy, a clear indication I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I heard a knock on my door and forced myself up to see who I could transfer my aggression to this morning.

It was my mom. I greet her and shut my door. Whenever something like this happens, she quickly gets the message. Looking at my phone, a notification popped up, and I hoped I would see something that would help bring my mood back but to no avail.

As I was heading to the restroom to have a shower, I heard my younger brother struggling with utensils in the kitchen. He greeted me happily and asked, "I want to make some tea; should I include you?"
Without responding, I walked past him.

Noticing my mood, he shrugged and continued with his task. The confusion on his face was obvious; he wanted to speak but decided to hold back.
Without wasting time, I got ready for work. I grabbed my phone, hoping to see something that would lighten my mood. Instead, it was filled with various notifications from random friends. I found everything irritating.

When I got to the office, I met my coworkers with the sound of loud music. "Oh gosh, why is everyone just so loud today?" I murmured and walked past them without a word or smile.
Kara, my friend and colleague, with a big smile, approached me, "Tanaa, come on, vibe with us. We are in high spirits this morning."
Everything was irritating, from her approach to her voice. "I'm not in the mood for this loud music or whatever you call it, please!"

"Babe, this is unlike you. What's the problem? Try to lighten up and be thankful it's Friday."
"Maybe later," I replied. She was quick to grab the hint. She smiled and danced her way to her seat.
I picked up my hair dummy, trying to get back to work, but the music felt like it was getting louder than before. I found it difficult to concentrate; my mood was so different from the cheerful atmosphere in the workplace.

While everyone was cheerful and having fun, I found everything annoying. I couldn't bear it anymore. "Mike, please, could you turn the music down a little? I'm finding it hard to concentrate."

"So sorry, I didn't know it was too loud and disturbing you." He stood up and reduced the volume. "I hope this is better, right?"
"Yeah, it is," i responded.

"Hope all is well with you, Mary? You seem so off today, and that's unlike you." I hesitated and then replied, "Seriously, I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. It's not you guys, it's just the mood I’m in this morning."

"Yes, we understand. Some days are like that for everyone. We just wake up feeling heavy for no reason." With a deep breath, I felt a little shift and managed to smile. Maybe he’s right, and today happens to be my day. I felt the need to use the restroom and excused myself.

I felt an unusual discomfort, like a dull pressure, and that only meant one thing. Sighing, I rushed to a nearby store, purchasing all I needed to take care of myself. I deleted the app that informs me beforehand when I should expect my monthly flow, and this one decided to come as a surprise with a twist of mood.

Within 10 minutes, my mood naturally began to lift, which surprised everyone. But within me, I realized what caused the sudden feeling. I called home and apologized to my mom and my brother for the unforeseen attitude they got from me that morning.
