AZL Book Club Introduction Post

These are all (or at least most of) the books I’ve read in my quest for awakening to the truth.

I stopped updating this list years ago, when it began to feel cumbersome and unnecessary. The list started with a few books I wanted to read, written down in my dream journal as I began to set a course towards enlightenment - but each book referenced 3 more books and eventually the paper list became difficult to manage.

So I copied the list into Numbers on my iPhone, where I could highlight and sort line items. I used red to highlight books that had been read, yellow meant that it was no longer on the list, and green meant I was considering removing it from the list.

The last time I bothered to mark a book as read or keep track of them in any way was 2019. I was wide awake and clear minded at the time. The practice of keeping track of books I’d read began to feel more like an exercise in vanity, so I abandoned the practice altogether, and spent my effort instead on meditation and living from my heart instead of my mind, my intuition instead of my intellect…my soul instead of my ego.

This was great, and lasted more than a year, but I never disconnected from the wildly fluctuating emotional and energetic web of social existence. I had a wife and child when my journey began, and after about a year of living in perfect harmony with the world around me, my second child was born. It’s been a blessing and a joy to get to know my wife and kids on the ever-unfolding journey, but the chaos of life eventually took me under once again and I lost sight of my meditation practice, eventually sinking back into unconsciousness.

Since then I’ve bobbed on the surface of awareness, sometimes enjoying moments of peace, awareness and connectedness, other times unconscious and blind. I think that, while the books can become a hindrance if taken too seriously or touted as personal achievements, they can be a boon if we use periodic reading to help keep our minds and energies attuned to the optimal frequencies. They can do this by simply reminding us of our intentions or even simply keeping us engaged in a continued effort to learn and grow.

So I’ve decided to put together the book club here in the Magick Community. The index of books can be found here. It will the the third iteration of the table above and the hope is, for each book, eventually there will be a post link. I would like to reread these books or at least skim through them to remember what I took away, and share with you a summary of the book’s general content, my perspective on each of these literary works, and perhaps commentary on how I feel I came to it and how it shaped my journey going forward.

I hope you enjoy the #azlbookclub or get something valuable from it. If you have suggestions for new reads that aren’t on my list, let me know! I used to read as much as 2-3 books per month, but I’m far slower under my current life situation - but I’ll add new recommendations to the list and work towards them nonetheless!

Thanks for checking out some more of my work! As always, I hope you enjoyed witnessing as much as I enjoyed creating!
