Essentials that need not be bought or sold.

Hello, everyone.

I welcome you to my blog. When looking at the world we are living in today, we would come to realize that things keep getting worse; the rich are getting richer while the average citizen suffers. It is a global problem but much worse in some part of the world like my country. Currently in my country, I cannot even say if it is the government that is the problem or the people, but a friend of mine will always say that the problem of this country is a collaboration of the people and the government, and with each passing day, the average citizen is forced to suffer.

It has gotten so bad to the point so many people can no longer afford three square meals; you cannot scroll through social media for minutes and not come across a comment or two where the individual is begging for help to enable them to feed; sometimes they are even bold enough to post it so everyone can see and know how badly they need help. Trust me, the begging is no longer just on Facebook or Twitter; it has gotten to WhatsApp too. A strange number from a WhatsApp group can just send you a direct message, and you will be thinking it is business only for the person to come begging for help.

No matter how bad the economy might be currently, there is a lot to be grateful for. When we look around us, we would definitely see reasons to be grateful. Things might be bad and not rosy at all, but the fact we can still afford three square meals is more than enough to be grateful for. things might be tough, but there are certain things that if made available for people, then life would not have to be so tough.

During the Easter period, I visited a relative, and I came to realize that water is a treasure. The area where they live has no access to clean water, and not every landlord makes water available for tenants, and unfortunately, they live in one of those houses where no provision for water was made, and they are left with two choices: journey miles to a stream very far from the house or buy water at a very expensive rate. As of then, you have to pay 100 naira ($0.084) for every 25 liters; it is a family house for crying out loud, and they have to buy at least 10 every day.

Imagine thinking about how to get food for your family and how to take care of basic needs, and you are thinking about how to make water available for family too. The load and expenses will be much; getting food only can cripple one's finances; what more adding the buying of water to the budget? So I feel water is a basic amenity and is needed for our day-to-day lives, which is why I feel it should not be bought or sold.
