There are two streets in Port Louis, where you will find an amazing amount of street art. One of them is Sun Yat Sen Street. The other is Emmanuel Anquetil Street, which is a parallel street to Dr. Sun Yat Sen Street. I have already done a post some time ago from this street. When comming to the crossroad, I turned around the corner and walked down Emmanuel Anquetil street. All of these must have been painted within the last two years. They were not here last time I was in Mauritius (2019).
At the crossroad where Sun Yat Sen St. meets Remy Ollier Street, there are a few new paintings. This face is painted on a double door with a padlock on. The fact that the padlock is placed right in the eyebrow almost makes it look like a piercing.
The wall right next to it has been given a slightly different motif. Asian landscape with flowering cherry trees, mountains and buildings. Here, the artist has included the lamppost as a tree trunk.
The first time I saw this beautiful mural was in 2017. It was still here in 2021. I have already done a post with this mural in 2019, but it is one of my favourites in Port Louis. Each time I walk this street, I allways make a stop to look at it. The artist is Armand Gachet.
As I continued to walk to the end of the street, I came across this mural painted on a brick wall. A car was parked in the front, which made it difficult to get good pictures. I haven't mananged to find out who the artist is either.
Chinatown is quite exceptional because of the large amount of street art. This district is small. Only a few blocks, but it has by far the largest consentration of street art. The reason for this is the non-profit organization called the New Chinatown Foundation. A group among the young generation desided to do something about many years of neglect. Their aim was to make Chinatown attractive. They invited artists, both locals and artists from China to redecorate the Chinatown. They definitly did a great job.
