Un oasis urbano y el encuentro inesperado
When the lockdown was decreed due to the pandemic, in the city where I live, all entrances and exits were closed. You were only allowed to travel to another city or municipality if you were going to a health center or for work, obviously with the proper documentation to support it. This confinement made us feel more trapped than usual, not being able to leave the house was too much.
Un oasis urbano y el encuentro inesperado
Cuando se decretó el confinamiento por la pandemia, en la ciudad donde vivo los accesos y salidas fueron clausuradas, solo estaba permitido que pudieras trasladarte a otra ciudad o municipio si te dirigias a un centro de salud o por trabajo, obviamente con la debida documentación que lo sustentara. Este confinamiento nos hizo sentir atrapados mas de lo normal, no poder salir de la casa ya era demasiado.
Once free transit was decreed, the first thing my wife and I thought was that we needed fresh air and an open place where our children could enjoy themselves and do some physical activity. Besides, the contagion factor was still high and being in an open place was important. Once we had defined all the aspects to take care of, we decided to go to Negra Hipólita Park in the city of Valencia, in the state of Carabobo.
Una vez se decretó que el libre tránsito, lo primero que pensamos mi esposa y yo fue que necesitábamos aire fresco y en un lugar abierto donde nuestros hijos pudieran disfrutar y hacer alguna actividad fisica, ademas aun el factor de contagio era alto y estar en un sitio abierto era importante. Una vez definidos todos los aspectos a cuidar, decidimos ir al parque Negra Hipólita en la ciudad de Valencia en el estado Carabobo.
Many people know this park; I could describe it as a small green lung in the middle of the city of Valencia. Although it's in the middle of two of the busiest roads in the city, it's big enough to achieve peace and recreation. It has walking paths, a children's playground, courts, sculptures, and a very particular amount of wildlife.
Muchos conocen este parque, podría describirlo como un pequeño pulmón verde en medio de la ciudad de Valencia, aunque esta en medio de dos de las arterias viales mas concurridas de la ciudad, es lo suficientemente grande para lograr paz y esparcimiento. Cuenta con caminerias, parque infantil, canchas, esculturas y una cantidad muy particular de fauna.
As soon as they arrived, the kids didn't hesitate to run off into the largest green area of the park. I also felt like doing it, but my legs couldn't handle it, but breathing the pure air of the place provided a wonderful peace. My kids enjoyed themselves as much as they could, even using the sculptures as a slide for my youngest daughter.
Los niños al llegar no dudaron en salir corriendo en el area verde mas amplia del parque, a mi tambien me provocaba hacerlo pero mis piernas no daban para tanto, pero respirar el aire puro del lugar brindaba una paz maravillosa. Mis hijo disfrutaron todo lo que pudieron al máximo, incluso las esculturas sirvieron de tobogan para mi hija mas pequeña.
I sat and watched them play and enjoy themselves. I told myself that was enough for me to know that they were having a fun and liberating time. I was already resigned to spending the rest of the time just watching and waiting for the moment to leave, but I like to think that God gave me a special moment to connect with nature in a particular way, so that I could also emerge from that place renewed.
Me senté a observarles jugar y disfrutar, eso me dije que era suficiente para mi saber que ellos estaban pasando un momento divertido y liberador, estaba ya resignado a pasar el resto del tiempo solo observando y esperando el momento de irnos, pero me gusta pensar que Dios me brindo un momento especial de conectar con la naturaleza de una forma particular, para que yo también saliera renovado de ese lugar.
I was telling you that the park has a very particular fauna. There are many squirrels, picures, horses, and caimans, all living freely in the park, because there is also a river running through it, so its spaces lend themselves to their subsistence. They have also gotten used to the human presence, especially the squirrels, because their visitors usually give them food, but I suppose that because the park didn't have visitors for a long time, losing that food source affected them.
Les decía que el parque cuenta una fauna muy particular, hay muchísimas ardillas, picures, caballos y caimanes, todos viviendo libremente en el parque, porque también le atraviesa un río, por lo tanto sus espacios se prestan para su subsistencia. También se han acostumbrado a la presencia humana, las ardillas especialmente, porque sus visitantes suelen darles comida, pero supongo que debido a que el parque no tuvo visitantes en mucho tiempo, perder esa fuente de alimentos les afectó.
While I was sitting and my kids were playing, a squirrel came very close to me. Honestly, it took me by surprise. I'm sure it was looking for food, but I had to take advantage of the moment. I asked my wife to take pictures while I broke off a piece of bread and shared it with her. It didn't take long for her to climb onto my leg and spend a long time there eating. I guess desperation led her to act that way.
Mientras estaba sentado y mis hijos jugando, una ardilla se me acerco mucho, la verdad me tomó por sorpresa. Estoy claro que estaba buscando comida, pero yo debía aprovechar el momento, le pedí a mi esposa que tomara fotos mientras yo picaba un poco de pan y le compartía con ella. No tardó mucho tiempo en subirse a mi pierna y pasar un largo rato ahí mientras comía, supongo que el desespero le llevó actuar así.
I tried to make my movements as subtle as possible. I didn't want to scare her, I wanted to admire her. Until the moment she felt comfortable enough on my leg and let me touch her, that delighted me because I know how nervous these animals can be. But we both benefited, she had a meal, and I had the joy of being so close to a beautiful creation of God. We returned home all renewed, valuing more and more the small details of life that we had lost due to the lockdown.
Procure que mis movimientos fueran lo mas sutiles posible, no quería espantarla queria admirarla, hasta el momento que se sintió lo suficientemente cómoda en mi pierna y me dejo tocarla, eso me encanto porque se lo nerviosos que pueden ser estos animales, pero ambos salimos beneficiados, ella tuvo una comida y yo la alegría de estar tan cerca de una bella creación de Dios. Volvimos a casa todos renovados, valorando cada vez mas los pequeños detalles de la vida que habíamos perdido por el confinamiento.
