My Top 3 Oscar Winning Movies

I am quite the movie buff and spent a fair bit of cash each year to see movies on the big screen but as of this year I've only been to the cinemas twice once to see Bad Boys 4 Life prior to our lockdown and after our lockdown, I went to seen TENET. While Bad Boys was a pretty crappy reboot I would say TENET was one of the best movies I have seen in ages.

Other than that, I've had to be content with whatever Netflix puts out which isn't all that great so it's been a tough year for enjoying a good movie. In fact, I've stopped watching movies for many months this year and when I do I would look at classics I have not seen, one of them was Full Metal Jacket, which was absolutely brilliant, Kubrick is a freaking genius.

So as we reflect on good movies this month, here are my favourite Oscar-winning movies. Gosh, this post has given me a hankering for popcorn and a slushie.

My Favourite Oscar-Winning Movies

My Nominations are:

Nomination Number One

Gladiator (2001)

My Reasons for the Nomination

Gladiator is the story of Rome in its final years before its collapse, the great empire has reached its tipping point and conquered most of Europe and now enjoy the fruits of the labour, they become soft and consumed with politics and bread and circus, kind of like what we see today. Rome is then turned upside down through the actions of one man who was lined up to take the thrown and double classed and sent down a path of vengeance.

Only have the power to amuse the mob in battle he takes on the Emporer in a battle of wits and swords. The movie is an absolute joy to watch, brutal and gory but a joy. The dialogue is fantastic, the score is brilliant and the acting is top-notch.

I've seen this movie so many times and it never gets old.

Nomination Number Two

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (2003)

My Reasons for the Nomination

The final instalment in the epic LOTR trilogy, I don't even think I need to give a reason this movie is mind-blowing the visuals, the acting, the score, the twists and turns as they wrap up a 7-hour story with the final 3 hours. This movie is long as hell but worth every minute.

Nomination Number Three

Rocky (1976)

My Reasons for the Nomination

The movie that took the 80s montage to the absolute pinnacle, the story revolves around everyone's favourite underdog. The movie has made Rocky a cult hero and spawned a massive movie franchise in the process and you can see why after the first. The dialogue might not be the best but the acting is so good and you really feel for Rocky as he tries to pursue his dreams. I think everyone can relate to the struggle.

Oh, and I can't fault the soundtrack that has stood the rest of time.
