The police helicopter was keeping track of another truck, the one with a tank full of rotten eggs behind it. After flying miles ahead they had found it. A bright-eyed rookie policeman with binoculars searched the road for this ‘runaway truck’. Though it was a dangerous situation, he hoped he could actually find the runaway truck as this would be the first time he would get to have the action-packed mission police men got on TV, the very reason that made him want to become a police man since he was small. So far he just broadly slid his binoculars across the highway lanes, in search of the supposed ‘runaway truck’ that had driven away from a small fast-food joint. When he didn’t see anything but a few stray cars going north, he checked the roads heading south, and then he saw a big yellow truck. One carrying a silver tank on the back going up the wrong side of the highway.

“There, the one headed south on I-95. Is that the one?” the rookie asked.

The police riding shotgun confirmed, his eyes tracking the truck. “Yeah, you’ve found the runaway truck. Looks like it’s going about twenty miles above the speed limit!” He quickly turned to the rookie with his mouth hanging open. He turned to the back to face the rookie, his mouth hanging open. “What else information do you have on that thing!?” he asked urgently.

The rookie juggled the binoculars so that they didn’t fall out of his sweaty hands and said, “Uh, it’s going up north on the side headed down south, heading…. It’s headed straight on a collision course for that big blue truck up the road! The one with all the police cars following it!”

“Oh god! We’ve gotta warn them!” the shotgun police said, and he pulled out his walkie talkie.

News of the potential truck crash spread like wildfire. People were shocked. News stations were on their way. But more importantly, the police on the chase of the Blue family truck were alerted.

A police man stuck his head out of the vehicle one car behind the Blue family truck.

“ATTENTION ALL VEHICLES. HIT THE BRAKES AND STOP WHERE YOU ARE! THERE IS A RUNAWAY VEHICLE ON THE LEFT-MOST LANE. I REPEAT, THERE IS A RUNAWAY TRUCK ON THE LEFT-MOST LANE.”

In the truck, Maya frowned and glanced in the rearview mirror. “Hey, just because I’m an under-age driver doesn’t mean this is a runaway vehicle!”

Dyan looked far into the open road in the distance and just infront of the wall of trees in the distance, was a bright yellow speck that seemed to be growing ever so slightly.

Dyan pointed at it. “They’re not talking about us! They’re talking about that truck up ahead!”

All the Blue children leaned their heads to the middle to see the growing yellow metal bullet headed straight for them.

“Holy crap,” Navy mumbled to himself.

The boy twins looked at each other. Then at the same time they began to scream.

“SHUT UP!” Maya yelled.

“Yeah, shut up so Maya can drive!” Dyan yelled. Her heart was pounding in her chest. She couldn’t die this young, right? Why did everything that happened that morning suddenly feel like a mistake? Why did Dyan suddenly feel like she should’ve taken life more seriously before this!?

Wild Yonder tosses his console aside and yelled, “Maya, stop the dang truck!”

“I’m trying! The brakes on a vehicle as big as this don’t work at lightning speed!” Maya had one foot on the brakes, leaving the gas pedal alone. She lifted her foot as high as she could and stomped on the brakes pedal, pushing it all the way back.

The truck jostled a bit, but it didn’t stop. They were still headed for the yellow truck.

Dyan’s face scrunched up. “What’s that smell?”

“Is someone having a barbeque?” True followed up.

“Why haven’t we slowed down!?” Navy asked, walking over to the front of the truck to watch the odometer. He pointed at it. “We're still going too fast, even faster!”

“I don’t know!” Maya answered. She stomped the breaks again, twice. The first time nothing happened. The second time they heard a loud, stuttering screech erupt from the truck.

Everyone bolted up.

Then Maya started to breathe in and out fast.

“...what’s wrong?” Dyan asked hesitantly.

“There’s something wrong with the brakes!” Maya yelled.

The police must have noticed, because in a megaphone one of them said “ATTENTION EVERYONE, GET AWAY FROM THE TRUCK DRIVEN BY A MINOR. THE TRUCK HAS CAUGHT FIRE, I REPEAT THE TRUCK HAS CAUGHT FIRE.”

The truck erupted with yelling and screaming.
