Dyan woke up and yawned. Yesterday had been such a long day for her. But where was she now?

She was in a bunk-bed under warm puffy covers. The window at the foot of her bed revealed a bright blue sky.

“Hey Dyan!”

Dyan saw the top-part of someone’s head peeping at the edge of her bed.

She startled before she said, “Hey Maya! Gosh you scared me!”

“Everything scares you.”

“Well, I kind of forgot I was here!” Dyan looked around the room. Royal and True were kneeled over a small pink suitcase, laid flat on the floor. They were filling it with lotions, clothes and whatnot. Talking from outside the room filled the house.

“Looks like everyone woke up before me,” Dyan said, smiling awkwardly.

“Yeah, you slept for a long time.” True looked at Dyan with worried eyes.

“Plus, we had to get up early. We leave for vacation tomorrow, so today is all about packing!” said Royal.

“So we’ve got our deodorant and swimming goggles packed up right?” asked Maya as she surveyed their closet.

Royal nodded.

Maya then added, “I’m bringing that blue and white-striped shirt, because it’s got short sleeves.”

“And I’m bringing my formal dress!” Royal held her head high and smiled.

“There won't be enough space for that thing! We have to try to fit all our clothes in the suitcase you know!” Maya argued.

Royal glared at her younger sister. “Well, I already packed it up.”

“More like put it on top of everything,” True corrected her.

The girls began to argue, while Dyan stared off at the wall. The only clothes she had were the pajamas she wore now and the clothes she wore yesterday. Her trash bag filled with clothes had been given to Miss Moleti, which meant…

“Dyan, what’s wrong?” asked Maya.

“I don’t have any clothes to wear for the trip.”

Maya then looked at her sisters, who were still looking at Dyan.

“Uh-oh,” Royal said. “You can’t just wear the same clothes everyday.”

“She could wear her pajamas sometimes,” True suggested.

“True! That’s stupid, she’s going to have to go outside like that!” Maya frowned down at True.

Dyan worried once more. She didn’t have any clothes! Which meant the Blues couldn’t take her on their family trip, which meant she’d be put out on the streets, which meant-

“MOM, I DON’T HAVE ANY SWIM TRUNKS!” yelled Azure, who’d ran into the hall.

“And I can’t find mine!” Wild Yonder yelled soon after.

“Uh, boys, are you sure?” Mrs. Blue walked over to them.

“Yes, I looked all over for my swimming trunks, and I don’t have any,” said Azure.

"Hm… you both out-grew your old ones, and I suppose we didn’t buy you any new swimsuits.” Mrs. Blue said, staring up at the ceiling in thought.

Dyan used all her courage to go up to Mrs. Blue. “I don’t have any outside clothes except for the ones I wore yesterday."

“Oh, is that so? Well… Maya and Royal have some old clothes I put aside for the younger girls to wear when they get older, so I can give you those. But as for underclothes…" Mrs. Blue's voice trailed off.

Mrs. Blue’s head turned from the boy twins back to Dyan. “I guess we'll have to go shopping for some clothes then.”

“Awwww,” both boys groaned at once. Dyan had to keep herself from smiling. She had always heard of twins saying things at the same time, so it was strangely fun to see it in real life.

Mrs. Blue whipped out her phone and mumbled “Swimsuits for the Wild Yonder and Azure, clothes for Dyan.”

“Wait, you’re going to get me clothes too?” Dyan asked.

Mrs. Blue looked up. “Yeah! You can wear hand-me-down shirts and pants from Royal and Maya, but you'll need new underwear. And heck, maybe one new outfit wouldn't hurt."

“This is so kind of you. Thank you so much!” Dyan beamed.

Mrs. Blue smiled back warmly. “No problem.”

Before Dyan knew it, she was in her clothes from yesterday staring at a teal-colored hippie van in the driveway. She examined the designs. There were all types of beautiful flowers and animals painted on the side, in mainly blue and purple colors. Some animals were awfully realistic looking, like the squirrel drawn next to the back wheel, and some were drawn as if they were in a cartoon, like the owl who’s eyes were crinkled crescents and his beak was stretched and curved into a smile. There were flowers whose petals were wide and lumpy or thin and curly, and there were orange sun rays painted around the front tire. There was even a small peace sign painted on the gas tank door.

“Wait, so hippie vans come painted on?” Dyan asked Mrs. Blue.

“The Volkswagen? Oh, no. When Maya was little, she drew a bunch of little stick figures on the side of the van with crayons,” Mrs. Blue laughed. “Mr. Blue and I were so mad, but we couldn’t punish her since she was only 4. Then, when she got older she begged us to let her paint over the stick figures to make the van look better. And boy, she did a good job!”

Dyan turned back to the van and her eyes widened. “So Maya drew all this?”

“Yep.” Mrs. Blue nodded at the designs. She clicked a button on her keys and The van clicked. “Alright kids, into the van.”

Dyan stared at the van. “There’s no door to the back.”

“This is a Volkswagen Type 2. There’s only one door to the back, and it’s on the other side,” Mrs. Blue explained.

Confused, Dyan walked to the other side. Azure opened the big door at the side of the van and the children slipped inside. Directly behind the front seats was a white leather bench facing backwards, seats divided by seatbelts. There was a second row of seats directly across from the door with only two seats, leaving space for you to walk behind it to a third row of seats. Between the first and second row of backseats, there was a wooden table with a single pole at the bottom connecting it to the floor.

“Woah,” Dyan whispered as she slipped in the first row of seats which were facing the back of the van.

The van’s engine stuttered, and then roared to life. Mrs. Blue backed out of the driveway and Mr. Blue opened the front door.

“Make sure to hurry! We’ve only got today! Tomorrow we leave for the trip!”

“Got it!” Mrs. Blue yelled back, and then she drove down the street and turned onto the open road.
