PARENTAL GUIDANCE: Still Relevant In Today's Society?

I discovered that my neighbour allows her son to always watch wrestling competition, yesterday while she was bathing him outside he was trying to mimic some of the favorites wrestlers moves and styles, splashing water everywhere, and the mom was laughing along trying to narrate some of the feuds going on among the wrestlers...through out yesterday towards the evening they were watching wrestling and laughing out loud and i was trying wonder if she ever saw the part that says Never try this at Home.

She's a single mother and only live with the son at home, and most time she leave the boy at home and allows him to go play out with other children in the neighbouring compound, one of those days he went out to play and all of a sudden he was rushed back home with other kids, he had injured himself in the fore-head and was bleeding, so the mother quickly rushed him to the nearby clinic for treatment, deep down i was like maybe he had tried one of the moves he watches on Tv.

Children have very sharp retentive memory, that is they capture very fast everything they see and would likely want to try it out, thats why i have a problem with the mother allowing her son watch wrestling, instead of say watching cartoon, educative children programs on TV, educative channels, no, she was busy talking wrestling with a 4 or 5 year old as if she is talking with an adult.

Thats why in most decoders Parental guidance is part of the decoders settings, child control setting were you can restrict your child watching certain channels that do not display children related content in their channel. Or restricting them from watching Adult channels.

Same things happens when i went to visit my aunt in Port harcourt, Nigeria, she allows her children watch anything on the Cable without cautioning or restriction, i wasn't comfortable i just have to return to my room, later i went out to caution them about what they watch and how it could affect them later on, so they'd be careful.

I don't really know if parents still talk to their kids about these things, or its just a free world to do whatever you like, i feel parental guidance is fast fading out in our society, do parent really take into consideration altho warnings by film makers, seen stuffs like PG13, PG16, PG18, NOT SUITABLE FOR VIEWERS YOUNGER THAN THIS AGE do they really take a second look at this things or they just ignore it.

It shouldn't be so? Right?.....lets guide our children to what fits them at that their age, like my neighbour allowing her son to watch these wrestlers and going on to practice it too tells you of the fact that whatever these kids watch on screen they are likely to reciprocate them if they are not guided probably, they are consequence to these things and if by a very young age parents allow their kids access to certain content and which sticks to their brains it will become very difficult to talk them out of it later on in life if they choose to bend to the lives and ways of those and what they watch on TV...

THANKYOU VERY MUCH FOR READING THROUGH EVERY COMMA'S AND FULLSTOP. LET ME KNOW, WHATS YOUR TAKE ON THIS...
