alternatetext

Atlas Shrugged: Part I is a 2011 American dystopian science fiction film directed by Paul Johansson and starring Taylor Schilling, Grant Bowler, and John Shrapnel. The film is the first of three planned installments based on the 1957 novel of the same name by Ayn Rand.

The film is set in a dystopian future where the government has become increasingly oppressive and regulations have stifled innovation. Dagny Taggart (Taylor Schilling), the head of a major railroad company, is struggling to keep her business afloat as the government imposes more and more restrictions. She is also searching for a mysterious figure known as John Galt, who is said to be behind a strike by the world's most talented individuals.

Hank Rearden (Grant Bowler), a brilliant inventor, is also struggling to cope with the government's interference. He has developed a new type of steel that could revolutionize the world, but the government is trying to control his invention.

As the world around them crumbles, Dagny and Hank must find a way to fight for their freedom and their future.

Atlas Shrugged: Part I is a visually stunning film that follows the plot of the novel. The film's themes of individualism, freedom, and the importance of the individual are as relevant today as they were when the novel was first published.

The film was a critical and commercial failure, grossing only $4.6 million against a budget of $20 million. However, the film has developed a cult following among fans of the novel.

The film's sequel, Atlas Shrugged: Part II, was released in 2012. The third installment, Atlas Shrugged: Part III, has not yet been produced.
