Early Life and Career

While he would later become a household name, Gordon Jump initially found himself behind microphones and cameras when he began his career in the entertainment industry working for radio and TV stations in the Midwest before moving to Los Angeles in 1963.

His transition to Los Angeles in 1963 marked the beginning of his involvement in stage productions, but it was his portrayal of Ol' Lonely the repairman in Maytag commercials that made him a recognizable household name to millions, as well as his first major successful role as radio station manager Arthur Carlson in the TV sitcom "WKRP in Cincinnati."
