alternatetext

The 2011 film The Double with Richard Gere is an American spy thriller film directed by Michael Brandt and written by Brandt and Derek Haas. It stars Gere as Paul Shepherdson, a retired CIA operative who is called back into action to investigate the murder of a US senator. Shepherdson is paired with a young FBI agent, Ben Geary (Topher Grace), to solve the case. The two men soon discover that the senator was killed by a Russian assassin known as Cassius, who was thought to be dead.

As Shepherdson and Geary get closer to finding Cassius, they realize that they are in over their heads. Cassius is a ruthless killer, and he is not afraid to kill anyone who gets in his way. Shepherdson and Geary must use all of their skills and experience to stop Cassius before he can kill again.

The Double was a critical and commercial failure. Critics panned the film for its clichés, its predictable plot, and its weak performances. However, some critics praised the film's action sequences and its suspenseful atmosphere.

The film is not to be confused with the 2013 film The Double with Jesse Eisenberg, which is a British surrealist black comedy psychological thriller film directed by Richard Ayoade and based on the novella of the same name by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
