What Is GHAWG?
#GHAWG is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how David Guardia, a courier and business owner from Bayonne, New Jersey, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.
More details can be found in the first post of this weekly recap.

"CLEAR!" EMT needed a few attempts with the defibrilator before I responded. Then I needed to be treated for smoke inhalation. Worse ways to die than getting thrown 100 feet away by an explosion exist. I found myself at peace. |
---|
ποΈ Under normal circumstances, this would have been the end of the story; explosions involving highly flammable fluids tend to be fatal. But these are not normal circumstances for David Guardia. ποΈ Had David Guardia continued to live the same-old life dealing with the same-old grind of working to pay bills, he may have felt regret on realizing he was going to die. Instead, he was doing something he had dreamed of for much of his adult life: riding to the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. ποΈ As noted in the zapfic entry, there are worse ways to die, and that includes being denied to ability to live to one's full potential. |

Upon further review, I sustained broken arms, broken legs, and a punctured lung. Painkillers were administered. Doctors made sure the lung didn't get worse. When I arrived at the hospital, I was radiating a barely-there green. |
---|
ποΈ This zapfic entry serves as a "before" image need for comparison later in the daily zapfic serial. Think of some hapless klutz immobilized by a body cast after falling from the roof of a 3-story house. ποΈ I forget where I read this long ago, but I recall reading about how low levels of radiation were found at the tomb of Jesus Christ where He was laid to rest. Could this radiation be the natural means used for the supernatural event known as The Resurrection? I don't know. But it made sense for me to incorporate this detail into the zapfic serial. ποΈ The barely-there green was a hint used in The Matrix movies to show that what the audience was watching was taking place in the world of The Matrix. When the scenes shifted to Zion or elsewhere in the real world, there was no green tint. |

Worst was over. I was in Intensive Care with no ventilator. Vitals were minimal. Tubes handled inputs and outputs. External stimuli didn't reach me. It looked as if I was in a coma, yet I was reliving my trip from another view. |
---|
ποΈ During the first few months of the global pandemic era, nearly all COVID-19 patients who ended up with a ventilator ended up dead. Lack of ventilator was noted to remind us that people could be in Intensive Care without having COVID-19. ποΈ We're familiar with tubes as inputs for things we need such as saline solution, vitamins, painkillers, etc. Tubes are also used for outputs-- what the body needs to eliminate-- and these tubes aren't fun for the patient to receive (especially the one entering through the nose). ποΈ It's been said that coma patients can still sense what was happening around them even though they were unable to respond. I'm not sure how true that is, but that was the best way to describe this situation for David Guardia. What this really is, my fellow readers, is the start of the most eye-opening and mind-blowing journey of David Guardia's life. |

β Someone close to me tried getting my attention about the starter as I approached East Palestine, only I was riding solo β Jacob Angel felt a strong need to talk with me β AnΓbal Rivera was OK until he was nudged to my bike |
---|
ποΈ This is the start of the 3rd-person view of the events as lived by David Guardia early in his ride to Sturgis. ποΈ At the time I published the zapfic entry where David Guardia and an older gentleman talk about the good old days when children would ride Big Wheels, I didn't have a name for the older gentleman. This was the first opportunity I had to call the older gentleman by this name. ποΈ I needed a way to get AnΓbal Rivera (a character inspired by Geraldo Rivera) into the story. He lives in Cleveland, Ohio, US when he's not working in the major media markets of New York or Los Angeles, and David Guardia was in Cleveland. |

β While looking for the last can of Spam, I felt the need to pick the "wrong" can β The man who drafted me into the arm wrestling tournament thought it was a great idea β Manny Rey entered my life to keep me from getting beaten |
---|
ποΈ That can of bad Spam saved David Guardia's life. Had he not felt nauseous, he would have kept riding his Harley-Davidson right into an exploding fuel tanker between western Pennsylvania and northeastern Ohio. ποΈ The 2nd bullet item set up the 3rd bullet item. David Guardia had a mission for his life, only he hadn't discovered it by then. He needed to be alive in order to carry it out. The arm wrestling tournament was the vehicle used to join him to his mission. |
7οΈβ£6οΈβ£ 2023-May-23 00:17:42
β Manny Rey handed me the sealed message for Harry Hoqualogue β As soon as we met, Manny Rey had been directing me β I was being introduced to riders I was saluting β Someone deposited a roll of silver quarters before I arrived |
---|
ποΈ Although David Guardia would remain working as a courier, starting with this message Manny Rey needed delivered to Harry Hoqualogue his deliveries would be of a different nature. ποΈ Manny Rey would play an important-- if limited-- role in the zapfic serial. He was giving David Guardia the final preparation he needed to take on the mission ahead of him. ποΈ For David Guardia to buy a roll of silver quarters from the bank, someone had to bring it to the bank. Whoever sold the roll of silver quarters to the bank for face value (ten dollars) had no idea the quarters contained silver. This is one of the big fears of silver stackers: silver quarters being treated as fiat quarters. |

β Bird dropping set up Manny Rey's uncanny predictive powers β Manny Rey knew I used the term shieldmaiden β Tall redhead was steered to the bar where Sinatra Hater slugged me β Discovering Sturgis, Michigan wasn't accidental (Hyperlink added for this post) |
---|
ποΈ Manny Rey was in position to see the bird begin his "bombing run" and tried to warn David Guardia. The warning went unheeded. ποΈ The tall redhead actually debuted in a Zapfic Monday entry whose prompt was freckles . She's essentially the same character, although for #GHAWG I switched her ride from a Harley-Davidson to a Victory motorcycle. The reason for that change will become apparent early in Act 3.ποΈ People know about Manhattan as a borough of New York City, but there is also a place called Manhattan, Kansas, US. We know about Miami, Florida, US, but there is also Miami, Ohio, US. Sturgis also has its related places. They are all Sturgis, but there is only one STURGIS people think of first: the one in South Dakota with the annual motorcycle rally. |

Story Arc So Far
After being thrown 100 feet by an exploding fuel tanker, David Guardia's life had flashed before his eyes before he blacked out. Even as he was being taken to the hospital he was undergoing a transformative recovery. After ending up in a hospital Intensive Care Unit, he begins what could be called an out of body experience.
