The GHAWG Diaries, Part 8

The GHAWG Diaries, Part 8

What's happening behind the scenes to bring new GHAWG content? The GHAWG Diaries is my recap of what I've been doing.

Base image came in another form from PublicDomainPictures.Net. Edits made using MS Paint.

Introduction

There's more to #GHAWG than just daily zapfic entries and the spreadsheet I use to track them. There's research. There's review. There's also thought and inspiration. Then there are the tools involved in doing any of those tasks.

Just to keep things from getting scrambled in my head, and also to document for myself what I've been considering, I began keeping a diary of my activities as they concern #GHAWG. With posts in the GHAWG, Uninterrupted series on hold at Act 5 while Act 6 remains in progress, I decided to share these diary entries with everyone on Hive blockchain.

On Mondays which don't feature a GHAWG, Uninterrupted post-- GHAWG-U-- I'll post diary entries from the previous 7 days or between GHAWG-U posts if the time between them is short. For Part 8, there are 7 days' worth of diary entries. The first entry starts on 2023-November-20.

Before anyone scratches their heads at a few terms, here are 3 I began using since the previous post:

TermMeaning
Rat BikeCode name for #GHAWG (the first and current zapfic serial)
Blue LionCode name for the middle zapfic serial in the GHAWG Universe
The BronzeCode name for the final zapfic serial in the GHAWG Universe

📓 Today I published [Part 7 of TGD]() I also studied the digital map to see what modern roads were overlaid onto Old Route 66 between Barstow and Needles. Once I figured out what I was dealing with, I was able to add more entries to the zapfic queue. There will be multiple entries for certain moments in time. There will also be travelogue entries showing the ride being taken. At this time, the zapfic queue goes to 2024-February-16. Because of how some of these entries were written, I may have some days featuring multiple entries. But if the daily zapfic serial continues its one-a-day plan, then mid-February is where I will be.

📓 What's the elapsed time for GHAWG? Believe it or not, I don't know. A few years pass between the start of the story and the begining of David Guardia's ride to STURGIS. After leaving STURGIS, he goes to Seattle, then to San Diego. Even if I include the 10 days he was hospitalized in Le Claire, Iowa while he was being transformed inside and out, all I know is the he's been on the road for "x+10" days. So I need to establish a timeline of events. Relative dates will be used, and the rally at STURGIS will be Time Zero. Now I need to figure out in what year does he begin his ride. It's not 2026 since the stary starts then. It's going to be at least 2028 or even 2030. Again, I don't know. I need to start that timeline now. Once I have a timeline, I will publish it-- but it won't be any time soon.

📓 I'm revieing both the digital map where Needles, California is on the west side of the Colorado River and Arizona Village, Arizona is on the east side. The song only mentions "Flagstaff, Arizona (Don't forget Winona)" in the middle of the state and Kingman (40 miles as the crow flies from Needles, so the driving distance will be longer). According to [Route66RoadTrip.com](https://www.route66roadtrip.com/route-66-arizona-road-trip.htm)-- "Route 66: The Mother Road"-- there are many more stops along the way on Old Route 66. This is what I was able to gather:
  • Needles, California (for reference only)
  • Topock, Arizona
  • Oatman, AZ
  • Kingman
  • Seligman
  • Ash Fork
  • Williams
  • Flagstaff
  • Winslow
  • Joseph City
  • Holbrook, AZ
  • Lupton, Arizona
  • Gallup, New Mexico (for reference only)
For my first crack at studying where new roads overlay Old Route 66, it looks as if the path from Needles, California to Topock, Arizona isn't what Google Maps says it should be. Instead of going straight into Arizona from Needles by going north, Our Heroes will need to ride south on Interstate 40 to reach Arizona. From there they need to take Oatman Highway to Golden Shores-- S-H-O-R-E-S, not S-H-O-W-E-R-S (which I almost typed)-- before backtracking a bit to reach Topock. This means I'll need to remap the route from the beginning.

📓 I did a few things wrong when I made my graphics for Fun with Maps 14, so it took me longer than I had anticipated to publish that post. I also spent time rewieing the digital map west of Defiance, Ohio. I had to skip 2 pages of digital map because neither page had enough interesting place individually. As it was, I was able to get my post published with 1 minute to spare local time before the day switched from Wednesday to Thursday.

📓 While reviewing the digital map between Defiance, Ohio and Strugis, Indiana, I made a startling discoverty: There is no Sturgis, Indiana. I had misread the digital map, so what I thought-- erroneously-- was Sturgis, Indiana is in fact Sturgis, Michigan. I can consider this a typo; I still need those zapfic entries since they display part of what makes Manny Rey the uncanny figure that he is. So David Guardia and Manny Rey were briefly in Michigan before returning to Indiana where they were intended to be.

📓 I took time to reveiw the spreadsheet I use to log all the zapfic entries I publish to LeoThreads at InLeo. The idea is to start from David Guardia's arrival at STURGIS and work backward to establish that part of the timeline. The rally itself will be handled as Time 0. I was thinking that 2 years had passed between the start of Rat Bike and Time 0. Here are details I'm sure about:

Some zapfic entries I made are vague, so I'll need to make a command decision on their timing:
    • David spends "months" working long hours after his father's death, and during that time he lost enough weight to come off his blood pressure medication; I will consider this 12 months (1 year)-- UPDATE: Confirmed.
    • That puts the period of mourning at Time 0 minus 1 year.
    • This puts his father's death between T0-1y1m and T0-1y
    • His father was hospitalized for 2 weeks, so it's within T0-1y1m
    • "During the time Slim has worked for me...."-- I had considered this to be 6 months, but if he's going to take over the business then that may not be enough time to establish that level of trust. I will call this 1 year, so this puts the timeline at T0-2y1m
    • When Slim started working for David, he was pudgy. Timeline is still at T0-2y1m
    • Zapfic entries prior to the first appearance of Slim take place within a few weeks. Timeline goes back to T0-2y3m.
The zapfic serial starts in 2026, which is when David comments on his being a decentralized blogger for 6 years. Hive blockchain was forked into existence on 2020-March-20-- Hive-D4--, so he created his account shortly after that; I'll say it was in April 2020.

Using these details and date figures, this means David begins his ride to STURGIS in July 2028. That puts his arrival at STURGIS within the rally which starts on 2028-August-7. Since he gave himself 30 days of travel, that means he began his ride on 2028-July-9. To be generous, he could have started some time between 2028-July-5 and 2028-July-9 (ID4, the 4th of July Independence Day holiday precedes that period).

My next step is to repeat this process only during the period between his departure from Bayonne, New Jersey, US to his arrival at STURGIS.

📓 I published the Weekly Summary post for zapfic entries 222 through 229. Our Heroes find themselves at Venice Beach in Los Angeles. Some unexpected things will take place within the next month for readers of Rat Bike and The GHAWG Universe more broadly. For Our Heroes, it's just a few days.

📓 I have to be careful when I work with Fun with Maps. In trying to get queued up in advance I almost ended up working with the wrong maps. I caught this error early, so it wasn't a big deal. The time for me to get ahead with Fun with Maps is Friday to Tuesday when other content gets posted.

    Sunday, 2023-November-26
📓 I'm looking at the digital map between South Bend, Indiana and Gary, Indiana. Actually, I'm looking at 4 or 5 pages of digital map, the first 2 of which don't have much to catch my eye and it's too soon to look at the 4th (or 5th) page (the one featuring Gary, IN). Out of these 4 or 5 pages, I can capture screens of 2 of them. I'll write about these discoveries later this week or early next week.
📓 Thanks to my trip down the YouTube rabbit hole my next post for GHAWG after this edition of The GHAWG Diaries will be on Wednesday. Tuesday will be a test post regarding proper URL usage to post videos at LeoThreads. Tuesday's post will feature music (and accompanying videos) by Claire Littley. Until now, I only knew her for singing the version of "Fly Me To the Moon" which played during the closing credits for the breakthrough 1996 anime series _Neon Genesis Evangelion_. After over 20 years away from music, I want to see how her new work has evolved.

When (and Where) To Catch #GHAWG

    When

This is the normal schedule for the posting of content for #GHAWG:
    ● Daily -- Each zapfic entry is posted shortly after midnight, from New York
    ● Weekends -- Weekly Summaries (with modified screen capture from LeoThreads as cover image) are usually on Saturday, sometimes Sunday
    ● Monday -- Either GHAWG, Uninterrupted if present, or The GHAWG Diaries
    ● Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday -- GHAWG Behind the Scenes -- The goal is to publish these posts on all days not dedicated to the Weekly Sumamry, GHAWH-U, or The GHAWG Diaries (TGD). There may be days with no post, so I'll minimize those occasions as best as I can.

    Where

    ● Daily zapfic entries drop at LeoThreads, usually posted shortly after midnight from New York (sometimes around noon)
    ● All long form posts-- Weekly Summaries, GHAWG-U, and TGD-- can be accessed using the #GHAWGnav sticky post or from my LeoFinance profile page
