Index4INDEX Card 186: Wayne Dyer 2

Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it's always your choice.

-- Wayne Dyer

About the Quote

There's only one person we can control, and that is oneself.

Others can make us feel miserable by accident or on purpose. We can't control what they do to us. However, we can control how we respond to the actions of others on us.

We can't avoid the initial moment of misery. The best we can do is acknowledge that moment and then move past it to continue living our lives as best as we can. If this means we start over, then we start over. If this means moving at a slower pace in what we do, then we slow down a bit.

Whether we wallow in misery for days/months/weeks/years, or we feel the initial hit of misery at the moment it happens, nothing gets done. If this is the case, then we may as well save ourselves the time and get past the misery to leave it behind as soon as we can.

Some (More) Information about Wayne Dyer

In 1976 his first book, Your Erroneous Zones was published. This book was an international best-seller, and it launched his careers as an author and as a speaker.

That book did so well that Dyer decided to quit his teaching job to focus on writing similar books. Among his future books were Wishes Fulfilled, Excuses Begone, and The Sky's the Limit. These books were just as successuful as his first, and they led to appearances on national television talk show programs such as The Merv Griffin Show, The Phil Donahue Show, and The Tonight Show.

Fans of Wayne Dyer and his books called him "the father of motivation." During his public speaking appearances he would use examples from his own life to show how his teachings could be applied or to show how they came about. His public speaking took him worldwide; when he wasn't on the road, he was at home in Maui, Hawai'i, US working on his writing.
