Index4INDEX Card 193: Tina Turner 1

The older you get, the more you realize it’s not what happens, but how you deal with it.

-- Tina Turner

About the Quote

Some things happen all the time, and with greater experience we should know how to handle these things. Sometimes we discover that the best way to deal with something is delicately or with diplomacy. At other times, we need to be direct, to the point, and even brutally honest.

Time is at a premium as we get older, and we shouldn't be wasting time when the situation requires directness. Life is just too short to waste time on nonsense.

Some Information about Tina Turner

Anna Mae Bullock was born in Brownsville, Tennessee, US on 1939-November-26.

Better known to the world as Tina Turner, she's a singer in the genres of rhythm and blues, rock and roll, and soul music.

Anna Mae Bullock began singing as a teenager. When she moved to St. Louis, Missouri, US she blended into the R&B scene. When attending a performance by the R&B band King of Rhythm in 1956 she met Ike Turner. Soon after meeting Ike Turner she became part of his act.

It was then that she began using the name "Tina Turner," and she was an electric performer on stage with the band. The shows were so successful that the act changed its name from Kings of Rhythm to the Ike and Tina Turner Revue. Although the live performances were top-tier, it was a struggle to gain recording deals.

In 1960 their song "A Fool in Love" hit the pop music charts, soon to be followed by a number of other hit singles. Ike and Tina Turner reportedly married in 1962; during divorce proceedings in 1977 Ike Turner claimed that he and Tina Turner were never legally married.
