About the Quote

We've been told to shoot for the stars because if we don't reach them it's still good to hit the moon (or Mars). Even if we don't reach 100% success, we still accomplish a great deal along the way to ending at 90%. Just as important: even if we fail to reach the high goals we set for ourselves, we inspire other people to strive for their own goals and high expectations.

Some Information about Bo Jackson

Vincent Edward Jackson was born in Bessemer Alabama, US on 1962-November-30.

Better known as Bo Jackson, he was one of the few multi-sport athletes to make it big in multiple major leagues: he starred for both the Los Angeles Raiders in the National Football League and the Kansas City Royals in Major League Baseball. Despite injuries cutting short his career as a professional athlete, Bo Jackson is considered one of the greatest all-around athletes in history.

When he was a student at McAdory High school in McCalla, Alabama, US, Jackson did the following:

  • he excelled in track and field athletics, including winning 2 Alabama decathlon titles;
  • he played baseball, during which time he pitched multiple no-hitters;
  • he played football, where he was on field for every snap of the ball for both offense and defense.

The New York Yankees drafted Jackson out of high school, but he chose to attend Auburn University instead. As in high school, he earned varsity letters for track and field athletics, baseball, and football.

As a college football player, he was named Consensus All-American at the running back position in 1983 and in 1985. As a college player, his crowning achievement came in 1985 when he won the Heisman Trophy on the strength of his rushing stats (1,786 yards) and touchdown production (17).

The NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Bo Jackson with the #1 overall draft pic, but he refused to play football for them. He decided to play baseball for the Royals, who drafted him in the 4th round in 1986. After playing 53 games for the Royals' minor league team, he was promoted to the major lagues in 1986.

In 1987 he became eligible again for the NFL Draft. This time he was drafted in the 7th round by the Raiders. Al Davis himself, owner of the Raiders, agreed to pay Bo Jackson a full NFL salary while he missed early-season games so that he could fulfill his yearly MLB obligations for the Royals.
