Rebel Wilson has become one of the youngest exponents of comedy today, so when I saw the trailer for this movie I imagined that she was finally going to star in a movie after being relegated to supporting roles. But when I read that the title had something to do with romance I was surprised that it was a romantic story although I also expected to get some comedy.
At the beginning of the movie we see her as a fat teenager captivated by Pretty Woman (a classic of the genre) while her mom tells her to forget about that true love nonsense so it was to be expected that she would grow up with no self-esteem. Pretty much the typical protagonist in these types of movies.

Rebel Wilson se ha convertido en una de las exponentes más jóvenes de la comedia actual, por eso cuando vi el tráiler de esta película me imagine que al fin iba a protagonizar una película después de ser relegada a roles secundarios. Pero cuando leí que el titulo tenía algo que ver con romance me sorprendió que fuera una historia romántica aunque también esperaba obtener algo de comedia.
Al principio de la película la vemos como una adolescente gorda cautivada por Pretty Woman (un clásico del género) mientras su mama le dice que se olvide de esas tonterías del amor verdadero por lo que era de esperar que creciera sin autoestima. Más o menos la típica protagonista de este tipo de películas.

Pictures directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson and written by Erin Cardillo, Dana Fox, Katie Silberman and Paula Pell respectively with an approximately 1 hour 30 minutes running time. It stars Rebel Wilson, Liam Hemsworth, Adam DeVine and Priyanka Chopra.
The story is about an architect named Natalie (Rebel Wilson) who is not respected by anyone where she works, in fact she is almost looked down upon and is known for her hatred of romantic comedies. Natalie does not receive the recognition she deserves perhaps because of her own insecurities, until one day she is assaulted in the subway station where she accidentally hits one of the columns and upon waking from her blackout discovers that she now lives in a world that is perfect, a world where she is respected, well dressed and is perceived as beautiful. It is at this point where she realizes that she is trapped in a romantic comedy, where she can no longer swear or have sex without being censored, but mostly because she is now wanted by the gorgeous Blake (Liam Hemsworth) a billionaire client of the firm where she works.

Cuenta con las participaciones estelares de Rebel Wilson, Liam Hemsworth, Adam DeVine y Priyanka Chopra.
La historia trata acerca de una arquitecta llamada Natalie (Rebel Wilson) que no es respetada por nadie en el lugar donde trabaja, de hecho es casi menospreciada y es conocida por el odio que profesa a las comedias románticas. Natalie no recibe el reconocimiento que merece quizás por sus propias inseguridades, hasta que un día es asaltada en la estación del metro donde se golpea accidentalmente con una de las columnas y al despertar de su desmayo descubre que ahora vive en un mundo que es perfecto, un mundo donde es respetada, bien vestida y es percibida como hermosa. Es en este punto donde se da cuenta que está atrapada en una comedia romántica, donde ya no podrá decir groserías ni tener sexo sin ser censurada, pero sobretodo porque ahora es pretendida por el guapísimo Blake (Liam Hemsworth) un multimillonario cliente de la firma donde trabaja.
Then Natalie begins to realize that New York doesn't smell so bad anymore; that her busy, dingy neighborhood now has bridal stores, bakeries and bookstores; that her neighbor Dony (Brandon Scott Jones) has become her gay best friend (with all the stereotypes you can imagine); and that her inseparable, romantic assistant, Whitney (Betty Gilpin), will now be her rival inside the office and that she looks absolutely fabulous.
That's when Natalie starts screaming: I'm trapped inside a goddamn romantic comedy!.
In the real world Natalie has a secret crush on Josh (Adam DeVine) her best friend and co-worker who in this new reality is about to marry Isabella Stone (Priyanka Chopra) so she will go to great lengths to prevent this union, of course, our protagonist has all the knowledge about the genre.
Entonces Natalie comienza a darse cuenta de que Nueva York ya no huele tan mal; de que su concurrido y sucio barrio ahora tiene tiendas de novias, panaderías y librerías; de que su vecino Dony (Brandon Scott Jones) se ha convertido en su mejor amigo gay (con todos los estereotipos que puedas imaginarte); y de que su inseparable y romántica asistente, Whitney (Betty Gilpin), ahora será su rival dentro de la oficina y que se ve absolutamente fabulosa. Es entonces cuando Natalie comienza a gritar: ¡Estoy atrapada dentro de una maldita comedia romántica!.
En el mundo real Natalie tiene un enamorado en Josh (Adam DeVine) su mejor amigo y compañero de trabajo quien en esta nueva realidad está a punto de casarse con Isabella Stone (Priyanka Chopra) así que hará lo imposible por impedir esta unión, por supuesto, nuestra protagonista tiene todo el conocimiento acerca del género.
Natalie as the main character talks negatively throughout the film about romantic comedies and the stereotypes they bring with them and to some extent it's funny but the film ends up being another romantic comedy despite being sold as the antithesis of these. However, I don't mind the satire of a genre that I'm a fan of and that we don't see so much on screen lately.
The film is full of cliche moments very much in the style of romantic comedies but they are described in an exaggerated way and although it was promoted as a film that came to undermine the genre it ended up giving freshness to the genre. Although it is not a lifesaver for this type of cinema, isn't it romantic? It comes to give us a respite from the cinema we currently consume
La protagonista habla negativamente durante todo el filme de las comedias románticas y los estereotipos que traen consigo y hasta cierto punto es divertido pero la película acaba siendo otra comedia romántica a pesar de ser vendida como la antítesis de estas. Sin embargo no me molesta que se haga sátira de un género del que soy fanático y que últimamente ya no vemos tanto en pantalla.
La película está llena de momentos clichés muy al estilo de las comedias románticas pero son descritas de manera exagerada y aunque fue promovida como una película que venía a socavar el género término dando frescura al mismo. Aunque no es un salvavidas para este tipo de Cine ¿No es tan romántico? Viene a darnos un respiro del cine que actualmente consumimos.
There is something comforting in this type of stories that for me are so necessary, not only for its main character Rebel Wilson, who is always fabulous throughout the film; but for the stereotypes that breaks at the same time being an actress with great measures. A fat woman, a black man, a person in a wheelchair or a trans person can now star in stories on the big screen after so many years of exclusion.
Another one that seems always a good choice for this kind of stories is Adam DeVine, I like his way of acting much more than Liam Hemsworth's for example, an actor that seems to be pigeonholed in this kind of roles sustained by his physique and not by his histrionics.
Hay algo reconfortante en este tipo de historias que para mí son tan necesarias, no solo por su protagonista Rebel Wilson, que siempre esta fabulosa durante toda la película; sino por los estereotipos que rompe al mismo tiempo siendo una actriz con grandes medidas. Una gorda, un negro, una persona en silla de ruedas o una persona trans pueden actualmente protagonizar historias en la gran pantalla después de tantos años de exclusión.
Otro que parece siempre una buena opción para este tipo de historias es Adam DeVine me gusta mucho su forma de actuar mucho más que la de Liam Hemsworth por ejemplo, un actor que parece encasillado en este tipo de roles sustentados por su físico y no por su histrionismo.
This film ends up confusing me because of its inability to define itself, not wanting to be a romantic comedy but a parody that uses the resources of the genre but wants to be different, it ended up detracting a lot from the movie.. It is a parody with much more of a romantic comedy than the films of this type.
In the end everyone is happy, our architect finally gives her place and gives herself a chance with her secret lover. A very happy ending for a film that was intended to break with the stereotypes of these movies, but at least for me it works mainly because of Rebel Wilson's ability to carry the story from the first moment.
Este filme termina confundiéndome por su incapacidad a la hora de definirse, no querer ser una comedia romántica sino una parodia que usa los recursos del género pero que quiere ser diferente, le resto muchísimo. Es una parodia con mucho mas de comedia romántica que las propias películas de este tipo.
Al final todos son felices, nuestra arquitecta por fin se da su lugar y se da una oportunidad con su enamorado secreto. Un final muy feliz para una película que pretendía romper con los estereotipos de estos filmes, pero que al menos para mí funciona sobre todo por la capacidad de Rebel Wilson de cargar con la historia desde el primer momento.
I would definitely recommend this movie, it is entertaining, it is fun and has all the ingredients to hook you, with its shortcomings and all, it is a very entertaining story and very good to have a good time with your partner, it worked for me! For me this movie is a 7.5/10, what do you say?
Sin duda te recomendaría esta película, es amena, es divertida y tiene todos los ingredientes para engancharte eso sí, con sus deficiencias y todo es una historia muy entretenida y muy buena para pasar un buen rato con tu pareja, ¡a mí me funcionó!. Para mi esta película es un 7.5/10 ¿Qué dicen ustedes?.
