Today, we continue the visit of Sète, in the south of France, and the omnipresent Street Art on its walls. As the weather was nice and after a good restaurant, we didn't want to walk, we decided to take a boat ride to visit the canals of the city and the entrance of the Etang de Thau with the neighborhood of the Pointe courte. At the entrance of this area, we're welcomed by this mural made by SatOne in 2017 for the MaCO.

Aujourd'hui, nous continuons la visite de la ville de Sète, dans le sud de la France, et du Street Art omniprésent sur ses murs. Comme il faisait beau et après un beau restaurant, nous n'avions pas envie de trop marcher, nous avons décidé de faire un tour de bateau pour visiter les canaux de la ville ainsi que l'entrée de l'Étang de Thau avec le quartier de la Pointe Courte. A l'entrée de ce quartier, nous sommes accueillis par cette murale faite par SatOne en 2017 pour le MaCO, le Musée à Ciel Ouvert :

The Pointe Courte in Sète. It' s the fishermen's neighborhood on the Etang Thau. The inhabitants are called the Pointus, they're a little apart of Sète in this atypical district where it's good to stroll.

La Pointe Courte à Sète. C'est le quarter de pêcheurs sur l'étang de Thau. Les habitants de cette pointe s'appellent les Pointus, ils sont un peu à part dans ce quartier atypique ou il fait bon flâner.

Rafael Gerlach aka SatOne is an artist born in Venezuela in 1977 but settled in Germany at a young age. It's during his numerous trips that he discovered graffiti. Now he uses in his works a lot of abstraction to create a universe of diverse and very colorful forms. A kind of explosion of colors. You can't see it on my photos because the colors have faded, but the background of Rise and Fall was of a blue referring to the sea and the nearby Etang. And above the window, you can see the sun setting causing all these colors from orange to purple through pink. Go to the artist's website to see the mural with these original colors (satone.de). My pictures really don't do justice to the artist's work.

Rafael Gerlach aka SatOne est un artiste né au Venezuela en 1977 mais installé en Allemagne très jeune. C'est pendant ses nombreux voyages qu'il a découvert la graffiti. Il utilise dans ses œuvres beaucoup l'abstraction pour créer un univers de formes diverses et très colorées. Une sorte d'explosion de couleurs. On ne le voit pas sur mes photos car les couleurs ont passé mais le fond de Rise and Fall était d'un bleu faisant référence à la mer et à l'étang tout proche. Et au dessus de la fenêtre, on peut apercevoir le soleil qui se couche provoquant toutes ces couleurs de l'orange jusqu'au violet en passant par le rose. Allez voir le site de l'artiste pour voir la murale avec ces couleurs d'origine (satone.de). Mes photos ne rendent vraiment pas hommage au travail de l'artiste.

Continuing the boat ride on the canal that runs alongside this neighborhood, we discover this tribute to the filmmaker Agnès Varda (1928-2019) whose first film La Pointe Courte was shot in the neighborhood in 1955. Her first success.

En continuant la balade en bateau sur le canal qui longe ce quartier, on découvre cet hommage à la cinéaste Agnès Varda (1928-2019) dont le premier film La Pointe Courte est tourné dans le quartier en 1955. Son premier succès.

Pointe Courte parking with this large wall filled with letterings. It's used on market days in the city, because you can't drive around the city these days. So, people park here and take the river shuttle to go shopping. I missed the market day 😢.

Parking de Pointe Courte avec ce grand mur rempli de lettrages. Il sert les jours de marché dans la ville, car on ne peut plus circuler en voiture dans la ville. Alors les gens se garent ici et prennent la navette fluviale pour aller faire leurs achats.

On the Point, we find a traditional activity of the city, the jousting or the lance sportive sétoise. We find on the wall the boats which are used for the joust as well as the poufre aka the octopus (see StreetArt #579 on the Place du Poufre for more information). I think it's the boat repair workshop as well as the meeting place for the members of the association.

Sur la Pointe, on retrouve une activité traditionnelle de la ville, la joute ou la lance sportive sétoise. On retrouve sur le mur les bateaux qui servent pour la joute ainsi que le poufre aka le poulpe (voir StreetArt #579 sur la Place du Poufre pour plus d'informations). Je pense que c'est l'atelier de réparation des bateaux ainsi que le lieu de rencontre des membres de l'association.

I'm ending this post with this piece that made me laugh. Too bad I couldn't find the artist who made it. / FR : Je termine ce post avec cette œuvre qui m'a bien fait rigoler. Dommage que je n'ai pas trouvé l'artiste qui l'a réalisé.
