Hello beer tasters! 🍻
Nothing special is happening, the crypto scene is in a kind of bear hibernation, even though it's already summer. Just like our coin, the Hive, of course (and all the hundreds H-E tokens) ...
Since the present is not very bright, it's best to do other, more pleasant things. Let's say listening to music or beer tasting with #beersaturday, 311 in a row. I have the nice task of introducing thirsty beer lovers to a new hop experience for me.
Among other things, this week I wandered around Ljubljana and tried two Slovenian beers that are new to me. The prices of everything are European, of course, and there are tourists everywhere, but you can find a corner where you can sit down and drink your beer in peace.
First of all, the one with less alcohol.
Pelicon Out Of China Hoppy Red Ale
Brewed by Pivovarna Pelicon, Ajdovščina, Slovenia.
Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 4.5% ABV, 30 IBU. Read Ale or International Amber Ale style beer, brown colored, various in balance, some caramel malty, the others hoppy and fruity.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Hoppy red ale with a full silky body and a bunch of great hoppy aromas such as melon, peach, and apricot. Made from Hubel water, special malted barley, oat flakes, and a rich variety of Slovenian hops. Brewers decided to lose some alk. % and make up the loss with more hops!
Pelicon is quite a well-known Slovenian craft brewery, awarded by RateBeer.com and World Beer Idol. I, too, wondered what this Out Of China means. Well, Pelicon home-town and location Ajdovščina can be read as "Out Of China" :) 😁
The beer is red-brown in color, and the head is average and disappears quickly. It smells malty. A sip goes down the throat smoothly, and I first taste a discreet caramel sweetness in the mouth, which is immediately covered by hop bitterness, peach, currant, and herbal flavours. The bitterness lingers in the aftertaste for some time.
A very fresh and tasty beer. With a lower alcohol content, it is suitable for the hot summer ahead. It is deliverable but expensive compared to others. €3 in the shops, €4.5 in the pub where I tasted it.

Reservoir Dogs Lone Wolf Single Hop IPA
Brewed by Reservoir Dogs Craft Brewery, Nova Gorica, Slovenia.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 6.7%, 68 IBU. It's IPA, hop-forward, and bitter beer.
What do the Master Brewers say?
As the strong, fearless master of the wilderness, the lone wolf can be your best friend.
Lone Wolf is the herald of the new wave of Slovenian hops production. We have used the Styrian Wolf hops exclusively and the result is a balanced beer with a distinct taste and the aroma of ripe tropical fruit, melon, conifers, and citruses.
Reservoir Dogs is also one of Slovenia's best-known craft breweries, with a number of internationally award-winning beers.
The beer is golden in color, clear, and with a lot of head. It smells of hops. A sip goes smoothly down the throat and immediately there is a pronounced hop bitterness that lasts throughout, accompanied by strong citrus fruit aromas of lemon, pineapple, and grapefruit.
The hop bitterness and grapefruit linger in the aftertaste for a long time.
A strong, juicy, and very drinkable beer. Refreshing, although it has a high level of alcohol which successfully hides behind the fruity aromas. One of the better IPAs I have tasted recently.
But it won't stay just for a taste. As it's available in all local shops, I already have a few bottles chilling in my fridge. Cheers!
