New Tunes 9.12.2022

Hello music lovers! 🎡 🎧 🎡

How are you? We are slowly moving towards Christmas, there is no snow here yet, nor the typical music for this time of year, but we're all still waiting for it.
Here we have a selection of #newtunes, 128th in a row, to brighten up your weekend with musical suggestions.
I'm sure there's something for everyone.

Different genres and styles, well-known and unknown artists, global labels, and small independent music labels, all compete for your attention. For a few minutes of your time. But where have we got to?
Anyway, if you don't like something, feel free to skip.

Donovan, David Gilmour - Rock Me

I noticed that Pink Floyd guitarist and singer David Gilmour recorded a few songs with folk-rock musician Donovan. The songs will be released on Donovan's album "Gaelia The Sulan Sessions" later this year.
Gilmour has been collaborating, at least lately, with quite a lot of musicians so I was curious to see what came out of it. And was positively surprised :)
Very nice, and calm melodies with an optimistic look to the future, it'll be just right for Christmas.

🎡 🎧 🎀

Chui - First Of All...

Chui is a band from Zagreb, Croatia. They are multiple winners of the prestigious Croatian music award Porin, and their music could be defined as a mixture of jazz and space rock. This song is from their latest album "Zagreb-Berlin", which is actually the soundtrack written for Walter Ruttman's famous (cult?) 1927 silent documentary "Berlin: Symphony of a Metropolis".
The album currently exists only in digital form, but with this announcement, they plan to release a limited number of vinyl editions, before Christmas of course :)

Broken Bells - The Chase

Broken Bells is a duo, a collaborative project between Brian Joseph Burton, known as producer and musician Danger Mouse, and James Mercer, vocalist and composer of the indie rock band The Shins. I know both of them, but I have never listened to them as Broken Bells. As they are both of mature age, and both experienced musicians, the expectations are quite high.
"Into The Blue" is their third album and it contains beautiful, tuneful and richly arranged songs that sound vintage and melancholic, a combination of early sixties psychedelia and seventies pop. An echo and memory of times gone by and never to be seen again. Recommended.

Eliot Alma - Wild Flowers

Eliot Alma, musician, songwriter, and singer is a new name for me and has recently released her debut album "Eliot Alma". She has just graduated from a music academy in Liverpool and for this album, she had the help of her school friends.
I was actually drawn to her intoxicating, almost ethereal vocals. Things became clearer when I found out her real name - Milica Ε erbedΕΎija, daughter of Rade Ε erbedΕΎija, actor, director and musician, well known in the former Yugoslavia.
I have listened to the whole album and I am convinced that we have a new name with an extraordinary vocal that will soon become very well-known globally.

Ariel Pink - I Wanna Be A Girl

Ariel Pink or Ariel Marcus Rosenberg is an American indie pop-rock musician (a new name for me). A few years ago he was a promising star and had a bright future, but because he supported Trump on the march to the Capitol, first his record label disowned him, and later the rest of the music industry did the same. It's not my place to debate politics now, and I don't care what anyone's opinion is on what, as long as the music is on.
Well, when Ariel realized that he was banned from the world of music and streaming services, he started blogging on Substack, which is now the only official source of his music.
In September he released "The Key of Joy is Disobedience" and is returning to the music scene in his own way, as a self-described victim of cancel culture and a new face of the rebellion against the mainstream music industry.

Avantdale Bowling Club - Rent 2 High

Avantdale Bowling Club (a new name for me) is the project of Tom Scott, one of New Zealand's best-known MCs.
With his sophisticated version of jazz rap, he has blown up first the New Zealand and then the world music scene. His second album "Trees", from which this song is taken, keeps jazz as a base but introduces pop moments and contemporary hip hop into the mix.
In addition, to live drums, rhythm machines and synthesizers are woven into the groove, complemented by the now characteristic jazz phrases of the trumpet, saxophone, vibraphone, and other instruments, which Scott's band uses to express their interpretation of the unique jazz rap he creates.

🎡 🎧 🎀

Militarie Gun - Let Me Be Normal

Militarie Gun is a band from Los Angeles, USA. They were formed in 2020 by the band Regional Justice Center. They started with hardcore, but in their latest album "All Roads Lead to the Gun (Deluxe)" they flirt with melodic post-punk.
The music is still sharp and direct, the vocals screaming, but it's all about the melodies surrounding the confessional lyrics about defiance, wrong choices, and empathy for difference.

🎡 🎧 🎀

Paramore - The News

And finally, Paramore, a very popular (all their albums have charted high), Grammy-winning, in a way controversial (the members have always had a few fights), American rock band, will release a new album "This Is Why" early next year, after six years. The song "The News" is released as the second video single from this album. After just one day, it already has almost a million views, by the way.
Vocalist and songwriter Hayley Williams said in a press release:

The 24-hour news cycle is just impossible to comprehend. And I feel a pang of guilt when I unplug to protect my headspace. The common reaction, or non-reaction, seems to be dissociation. Not one of us is innocent of that and who could blame us?
