About the Quote

We have views on nearly everything, both old and new. For a long time, we may see certain things under a certain point of view. Then at some point our perspective changes. At that point, we will see those things differently either in favorability (positive, negative, or neutral), or in intensity of belief (more so, less so, or no change).

Some things we used to think about as being vital end up taking a lesser position in our minds. Some things we barely considered take on greater importance for us. In both cases, it took a change in persepctive or point of view for us to change what we look at.

Some (More) Information about Wayne Dyer

In 2003, after two decades of marriage, Wayne Dyer went through his 3rd divorce. He admitted that this one was more painful for him than the physical process of having a heart attack. It was under this circumstance that in 2004 his book The Power of Intention was released.

In a 2015 interview with Ray Hemachandra, one of his final interviews, Wayne Dyer noted that goal-setting differs between human archetypes:

Goal setting is fine if you want to be the warrior archetype. These people are setting goals constantly and trying to get someplace else. They say, 'If you don't know where you are going, then you won't know when you get there.' When you get to a higher level of consciousness, though you get into a spiritual approach to life, you are not trying to get someplace else because you never can get it done. You never are going to get there. Instead, what you want to do is get to a place where you are at peace. You are connected to God. You are enjoying every single day you have. Then, the growth of you and your store, if you have one, will take care of themselves.

(Emphasis added)

Wayne Dyer had been influenced by many people during his time as a public speaker and author of motivational books. Among those influenced him were Nisargadatta Maharaj, Abraham Maslow, and Swami Muktananda.
