Warhammer 40k - Unit Review Wheel 12 - T'au Empire, Darkstrider

Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!

In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.

So let me spin the wheel and see what I get:

T'au Empire - Darkstrider

Well now... I rolled for a T'au Empire unit, but I have to be honest: The T'au are about to get a new Codex. I shall have to come give a "modern" review of this and other units once there is enough of them to draw a comparison post up!

So... Darkstrider... this is an Epic Hero of the T'au. I just learned something. I had thought that "Darkstrider" was like the Pathfinder version of a Cadre Fireblade!

checks A Cadre Fireblade is a no-name character that you can take up to 3x copies of in a normal army.

But the Darkstrider, whose name is El'Myamoto, is a sneaky hero that there can only be one of in your army.

His statline is fairly common for fast medium infantry: Movement 7, Toughness 3, 4+ Save and 3 Wounds. This is not very tough...

Ranged Weapons

His gun's name is Shade and it can Shoot 18" after moving plus Advancing (Assault), 2x shots 2+ to Hit, Strength 5 with no AP and 2 Damage each!

Not bad.

Abilities is where he really shines, however!

Abilities

He and his Squad can both Infiltrate and has a Scout move of 7". This means you can deploy him and his squad far away from the Deployment zone and then move 7" before the first turn!

Structural Analyser is a superb abilities, Attacks add +1 to the to Wound roll!

With a S5 weapon hitting a T4 Space Marine, they would Wound on a 3+, with Darkstrider it would be a 2+ to Wound!

Jammer Arry makes it so that enemies in reserves may not arrive within 12" of this model. Brilliant! Not only has this unit got the capability to deploy in most areas and then stop the enemy from bringing reinforcements near him!

This is definitely a useful choice in the T'au Empire army!

PS: I hate T'au!
