Californian Trevor Kowalski describes his fifth album "The Twilight Glow" as an attempt to capture the impressions he gained while travelling through the National Parks of the Southwestern USA. This has resulted in beautiful melodies that seem to be embraced by the surrounding Nature. All the compositions were written during this trip. Including the title track, which was written on the mesas of New Mexico, covered in perpetual snow. It was later completed on the beach of the Pacific Ocean.
Der Kalifornier Trevor Kowalski bringt als Erklärung für sein fünftes Album “The Twilight Glow” zum Ausdruck, er habe versucht, seine Eindrücke bei einer Reise durch die Nationalparks im Südwesten der USA, in Musik umzusetzen. Entstanden sind traumhaft schöne Melodien, die von der Natur wie umarmt scheinen. Alle Kompositionen entstanden auf dieser Reise. Somit auch der Titelsong, der auf den vom ewigen Schnee bedeckten Tafelbergen (Mesas) in New Mexico entstand und später am Strand des Pazifiks vollendet wurde.
Trevor Kowalski has been playing the piano since he was a very young boy. He went on to Boston University, where he studied composition and piano. From Massachusetts, it was a short trip across the Atlantic to The Royal College of Music in London. After graduating, he began working with composer Hans Zimmer. Zimmer is best known for his work with the film industry. Musically equipped in this way, he began to create his own compositions for television films, theatre and video productions ("Unwording", 2023).
Das Klavierspiel begleitet Trevor Kowalski bereits seit der frühen Jugend. Später folgte dann das Studium an der Boston University in den Fächern Komposition und Klavier. Von Massachusetts aus, ging es über den Atlantik hinweg an das Royal College of Music in London. Nach dem Abschluss sammelte er erste Erfahrungen bei dem Komponisten Hans Zimmer, der insbesondere durch seine Werke für die Filmindustrie bekannt wurde. So musikalisch gerüstet, begann er eigene Kompositionen für Fernsehfilme, Theater und Videoproduktionen (“Unwording” 2023) zu erstellen.
Kowalski's work is characterised by a preference for minimalism on the one hand. On the other hand, he has a devotion to colourful classical music. The influence of the compositions of Camille Saint-Saëns, Jennifer Higdon and John Barry is unmistakable in his work. At the same time, more and more elements of jazz are flowing into the works of the young composer. Here the approach of Thelonious Monk, who was always of the opinion that there are no strange sounds in music, is predominant.
Verhältnismäßig rasch kristallisiert sich bei den Arbeiten von Kowalski einerseits seine Vorliebe für den Minimalismus und andererseits die Hingabe zur farbenreichen klassischen Musik heraus. Die Einflüsse der Kompositionen einer Camille Saint-Saëns, Jennifer Higdon oder John Barry sind unüberhörbar. Gleichzeitig fließen immer mehr Elemente des Jazz in die Werke des jungen Komponisten ein. Hier vorwiegend die Herangehensweise eines Thelonious Monk, der stets behauptete, in der Musik gäbe es keine schrägen Töne.
The Twilight Glow" is an album filled with feelings. - Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that it lives from these feelings. Loneliness ("Turquoise Dreaming"), the memory of a friend who died far too soon ("I Can't Carry Your Memory") or melancholy and longing ("This Moment Will Be Hard to Forget") - all this characterises this exceptional work, in which classical music and jazz blend seamlessly. It seems to be an emotional journey. To sum up, I'd say: absolutely worth listening to!
Das Album “The Twilight Glow” ist ein Werk, das voller Gefühle steckt. - Vielleicht korrekter ausgedrückt: Von diesen Gefühlen lebt. Einsamkeit („Turquoise Dreaming“) , Erinnerungen an einen viel zu früh verstorbenen Freund („I Can’t Carry Your Memory“) oder die Melancholie und Sehnsucht („This Moment Will Be Hard to Forget“) - all dies prägt dies ganz besondere Werk, wo sich Klassik und Jazz übergangslos vereinen. Es scheint wie eine emotionale Reise. Mein Fazit: absolut hörenswert!
