Not A Soul

“Okay,” Norie wiped her glazy eyes. She was smiling. It felt good knowing she wasn’t the only person in the world to feel so sad and uncertain about life. And now she knew her Dad still loved and cared about her. “B-but, y’all know Imma cry if I talk about this stuff now.”

“Well, you can talk to me alone later,” Mom answered. “Me, or your father, or both of us, whatever you want. But we came here because you need to get out and be happy for once, and we all know you love sushi.”

THE BUTTON'S WISH

Glass and buttons flew everywhere and Bill the sobbing button, flew unto the shoes of the man.

He looked down and saw the plain button, he smiled and picked it up, running towards the seamstress.
"I'm so sorry." The man apologized. "I'll help you clean it up so please help me fix the sleeve, I've found an even better button."

The seamstress readily agreed with the man helping her pick up the broken glasses and buttons, yet the one who was most happy was Bill, for not only has he been chosen, he'd been chosen by a man who was going to the skies.

I knew you'd be mad," he began, "so I came prepared," the sound of the zipper of his bag could be heard as he unzipped his bag.

Luna's answer was a scoff as she bored a hole in the wall beside her, determined to look at anywhere but Joshua's face. It was getting difficult by the second and she knew she'd soon lose the battle.

"These are for you," Joshua placed a small bouquet of flowers, a box of cupcakes and the latest paperback novel from her favorite author on her table and finally, she turned her head to look up at him then down at the contents on her table.

Wishes and Stars

Amanda's smile disappeared. "You mean I can't wish for a pony, or a real car like the one my Barbie drives?"

Grandma gently hugged her. "No, not for yourself, or your family, or even any of the movie stars or other famous people on TV. But you could wish for that for a stranger."

Amanda scrunched up her face, looking at her sparkly blue shoes. Then she moved a short distance away from Grandma, and looked up.

She lifted the old ivory button to her lips, and whispered "I wish that the boy I'm going to marry when I grow up would get a shiny blue car for Christmas this year."

Maize season in farm

image.png

Source

In all these, there's only one season where we don't get tired of going to the farm, in fact, we would remind our parents for the upcoming Saturday. That's the corn season.
Whenever it's corn season, the regular frown that appears of our faces whenever it's farm time changes to all smiles because we will have the opportunity to consume corn as we like.

Apart from the opportunity to eat as much corn as we want, there's also something so sweet about that particular season, the farm looks so fresh with the green plants, and it has a very sweet cooperative climate condition, in the sense that it's a rainy season and rain falls regularly, which reduces our working time whenever we go to the farm, hence giving us the opportunity to devour more corn.

The thrill of the first time

Never before had I heard a concert of crickets and toads on the same stage, amplified by the silence of the night and the vastness of the savannah. Each noise was new and I was intoxicated just listening to them.

The next morning I woke up in the early hours of the morning to the song of birds and cicadas. My body was vibrating with excitement and there was a strange happiness on my face. My friends could tell, even though I was not aware of it. That morning and every morning I was at the hacienda, I went for walks and horseback riding with the son of the owners of the house. We had such a rapport that it was evident that a more intimate feeling was being born between us.
