Warhammer 40k - Unit Review Library 64 - Aeldari, Guardian Defenders

Source

Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!

Now known as the Unit Review Library!

What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!

In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.

So let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:

Aeldari, Guardian Defenders

10th Edition Index

The first ever Aeldari entry... how about that?

Well... who are the Aeldari? In a nutshell: Space Elves.

Because I play the Imperium of Mankind... I hate Aeladri... or Eldar as they are known in the common tongue.

Generally speaking, the Aeldari are self-serving xenos who occasionally help the humans because it is in the interest of self-preservation to mess up Chaos's plan - the mutual enemy of the Imperium and the Aeldari race.

Well... Guardian Defenders are basically ordinary citizens who have been drafted into combat due to need.

They cost 100pts to field a unit of 10 Defenders and 1 Weapon Platform.

The squad costs $60 on the warhammer.com webstore.

Let's check those stats!

Stats

Movement 7" (Faster than most infantry)
Toughness 3 (Human level toughness)
Save 4+(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 1
Ld 6+ (Good Leadership for plebs)
OC 2

The Weapons Platform has the same stats but has 2 Wounds and 0OC

Weapons

The Guardians have Shuriken Catapults and Close Combat Weapons while the Weapons Platform comes with the options.

Ranged:

Shuriken Catapult
18" Range, 2 Shots, Hitting on 3+. S4, AP-1 and 1 Damage.
With the Assault Keyword - meaning they can move 7" plus run D6" and still shoot.

Weapon Platform:

Scatter laser
36" Range, 6 Shots, Hitting on 3+. S5, AP0 and 1 Damage.
Anti-Light Infantry

Bright lance
36" Range, 1 Shot, Hitting on 3+. S12, AP-3 and D6+2 Damage.
Anti-Tank

Starcannon
36" Range, 2 Shots, Hitting on 3+. S8, AP-3 and 2 Damage.
Anti-heavy Infantry

🠶 Aeldari missile launcher — starshot (Krakk single shot)
48" Range, 1 Shot, Hitting on 3+. S10, AP-2 and D6 Damage.

🠶 Aeldari missile launcher — sunburst (Frag -Blast for hordes)
48" Range, D6 Shots, Hitting on 3+. S4, AP-1 and 1 Damage.
Blast
Aeldari Missile Launcher has two firing options. So dual Anti-Infantry but not as good as a Bright Lance and Anti-Infantry not as sure as a Scatter Laser

Shuriken cannon
24" Range, 3 Shots, Hitting on 3+. S6, AP-1 and 2 Damage.
Sustained Hits 1
Anti-Medium Infantry

Melee:

A bit meager in Close Combat

Close Combat Weapon
1 Attack, Hitting on 3+, S3, AP0 and 1 Damage each.

Against Marines this does nearly nothing...

Abilities

Defenders of Fate

For Each objective controlled by Guardian Defenders, you get to add a Fate Dice to your Fate Pool... this is very powerful... but Guardians are not difficult to kill.

Their most powerful protection is not being as dangerous as the rest of their army...

Crewed Platform

When all the Guardians are dead, the Platform is destroyed.

All this usually means is that the clever Eldar player will put the second last set of wounds on the gun. 1x OC2 Eldar is better than nothing at all.

Thoughts

Versatile, not too tough but as I say, generally I will have bigger targets to deal with while they are a pain in the butt. They are dangerous due to their ability to generate more Fate dice.

Crush them when you have the opportunity!

Thank you for reading!
