Warhammer 40k - Unit Review Library 75 - Chaos Daemons, Lord of Change

Source

Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!

Now known as the Unit Review Library!

What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!

In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.

So let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:

Chaos Daemons, Lord of Change

10th Edition Index

The Lord of Change is the Greater Daemon of Tzeetch. Tzeetch is the Chaos God of Change, mutation and magic. So the Lord of Change, even though he is a big Daemon that can do quite a bit of damage in close combat, is highly gifted in the psychic arena.

The Lord of Change is 260pts to field and costs $168 to buy.

Let's check its stats.

Stats

Movement 12"
Toughness 10
Save 6+/4++(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 18
Ld 6+
OC 5

Weapons

The Lord of Change comes standard with a Bolt of Change ranged attach and a Staff of Tzeetch melee attack.

You can then either add a Baleful Sword for more melee threat or a Rod of Sorcery for an additional Ranged attack. You have to choose.

So either 2 shooting attacks and one melee attack, or one shooting attack and 2 melee attacks that can both be used.

Ranged:

Bolt of Change - Witchfire
18" Range, 9 Shots, Hitting on 2+. S9, AP-1 and 1 Damage.
Psychic

Bolt of Change - Focussed Witchfire (The stronger but more risky option)
18" Range, 9 Shots, Hitting on 2+. S9, AP-2 and D3 Damage.
Psychic, Hazardous

Rod of Sorcery
12" Range, 6 Shots, 3+ to Hit, S8, AP-1 and D3 Damage each.

Melee:

Staff of Tzeentch
5 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S6, AP-1 and 3 Damage each.
Psychic

Baleful Sword
3 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S7, AP-2 and 3 Damage each.
Extra Attacks

Abilities

Deep Strike, Deadly Demise D6

Master of Magicks

In your Shooting Phase, choose one of the following abilities to benefit the Bolt of Change shooting attack:

  • Ignores Cover (Appropriate when high armor is hiding in cover)
  • Lethal Hits (Appropriate when shooting something with T9 and higher)
  • Sustained Hits D3 (Appropriate when shooting squads of enemies)

Daemon Lord of Tzeentch

Friendly "Tzeentch Legiones Daemonica" units within 6" of this model get +1 Strength on their ranged attacks.

Thoughts

Overall, even though he is vulnerable in melee, I feel the Rod of Sorcery can deal more damage before combat is joined and thus is better than the Baleful Sword.

Overall, he is a Flying gunship with plenty buffs to help him kill anything. If you could use something fast to screen him from charges, that would work best... probably a unit of 3 Screamers of Tzeetch would do for screening, but if you want to take advantage of the Daemon Lord of Tzeentch ability, you would need to have Tzeetch shooting units near the Lord of Change as well.

That is 2 Chaos Daemon Datasheets reviewed putting them on 3.63% Completed and the total Completed on 7.72% Complete!

Thank you for reading!
