Conforming To Norms

“So you're just going to walk away. Just like that?” She persisted. Victoria was one of the most tenacious and persevering people I knew. She wasn't going to give up unless she got positive feedback.

“What do you want me to do? huh?” I barked, fighting back the tears that wanted to flow freely.

“What do you mean by that? Do you always have to conform to norms?”

Shore to Another World

"Over there, near the old dock," said uncle Fred cheerfully, "there's the coral reef I want you guys to see."

The excitement to see the mini marine garden was contagious, and after swimming about a hundred meters between pauses, laughter and uncle Fred's scolding, the five scuba divers arrived at the old pier.

The turquoise waters, already adorned by the golden colors of the sunset, gave a glimpse, along the corroded dock, full of shells, and the small waves that passed very softly, of a tropical spectacle with no match.

Finding peace

“Aww, come here” Laura said, enveloping him in a tight hug and blinking back her tears.

Laura picked up one of the photos, it was of Mona singing into the microphone while her grandfather was with his guitar gazing at her with love and adoration. They both looked young and vibrant, and her grandfather's haircut made her laugh as usual.

“Ahh, the good old days. I see my haircut still cracks you up as usual, I'll inform you that the ladies loved it back then” Ray replied chuckling.

Roadside Nostalgia

"I remember back when times were easier." The driver began.
"Fuel prices were low, roads were good, food wasn't scarce. When the common man could actually survive."
"You're talking of a long time ago." Another passenger said laughing drily.
"I remember then too. When the governor actually cares for the well being of this state. Back then when we had foreign musicians come for state festivals and each festival held for a few days. Free for everybody to come and rewind."

Bonding & Homesick

I didn't go back to school when the strike was called off, I had to stay back with my sister for a while so that she could devise a means to handle her job and her baby. Eventually, I returned to my apartment outside school a week after the strike was called off.

The next morning I woke up at 6 am to prepare a bottle of milk for my niece then discovered she was not there with me. There was no one to babble my name or tug at my trousers when I was at the kitchen sink doing the dishes. My house was completely silent and empty. Even after going back home, I didn't want to attend any classes yet.

In the battle itself, in the midst of the nocturnal outbursts, a single thought crossed the mind of that young boy:

"What could my parents be doing if I am not there and it was me they were talking to at this hour?" -The starving and yellowish face in those anguished and dramatic moments was crossed by dissimilar thoughts - "If I could be there and not here, they would be happy" - the boy imagined while the sky turned orange, silver, red as if it were a gigantic bonfire.

The Brynhill Baker

"Stay here,"

"Secure the doors when I leave," he ordered his assistant who paled at the shock.

Gildor ran into his room and pulled out a huge leather-lined trunk from under his bed.

On the outskirts of the shire. The mythical reptile was crushing stone dwellings like crackers, crumbling them with the spiked ball at the end of its long tail. The villagers ran in panic seeking shelter. Screams of terror merged with the roars of the enormous dragon. The devastating flames consumed everything mercilessly.
