My Relationship Status.

" He pleaded with me and even went to my friends to plead with me so we can have a relationship. Honestly, it’s been a while since a man begged me that way. I decided to dance to his tunes and see if this relationship will be stable. He has a job and I had mine too so things were going well and I go to spend almost every weekend with him, cook for him, go out, have fun and do every other thing.
Would you believe that Alexis is the eighth guy I’d ever meet? Isn’t it tiring at twenty three?

RUN

He turned and locked eyes with mine. It only took a second for recognition to set and his scarred mouth tipped up in a terrifying smirk that chilled me to the bone. The moment he took the first step, my senses kicked in and I fled. No direction. No guide. Just the thought I had to run. I ran and ran but I could hear them gaining. Tears clouded my vision and my lungs burned. I wasn’t a runner. I never exercised in my life. Still, I kept going.

“Amina! Stop right there”

His shouts only made me put more strength into my legs. I refused to look back but I could hear the heavy footfalls closing in. My heart burst with an emotion I could not decipher and my life flashed before my eyes. Was I a fool to dream? Would I never be free of them?

The Guild Of Elite Maids

isha also kept a bright mood around her father. So much so that it rubbed off on him, he was always humming and talking about the joys of the day, even as he continued through his treatment.

Lisha delved deep into yoga, where she practiced more and more complex structures until the guild couldn’t keep up with her, so she practiced alone at home too.

The years went by, Lisha met a nice guy who shared her interests, her father survived his cancer, and her maid job wasn’t nearly as dreadful as it used to be.

A Dance of Dreams

or a second, Tunde wondered what had happened to him. He was such a fool to have dreamt that after secondary school he would be able to attend university and become the “greatest surgeon in the world”. Greatest surgeon indeed. He laughed a dry, painful laugh. Look at him now, he dropped out of secondary school and impregnated his childhood friend. To think that he was the smartest child in class!

“oshodi! Mushin! Somolu!” The bus conductor yelled. Tunde jumped in as soon as the bus slowed down. He sat with his two hands between his legs, his thoughts spiraling around his childhood and all his lost hopes.

Earlier Wednesdays

“I'm sorry you had to hear that.”

“What did you mean by other family, mummy?” Dara asked, already finding her voice.

“Hmmm,” Her mum placed her hands around Dara’s shoulders. “I wasn't expecting to tell you this so soon. Or to tell you ever. But I guess I wouldn't have been able to hide it at some point. I wanted to protect your father's image. It's why I kept lying to you. Hmmm, your dad has another wife. She's pregnant with a son at the moment. It's why your dad hasn't been able to come home.”

Ink and Inspiration

Her eyes moved from the bundle of papers with “no” on her desk to her reflection. Publishers in twelve houses had turned down her work. With every rejection slip saying “thanks but no thanks,” she felt as if one more piece of her hope about being a writer crumbled away.

She fell into the seat of her old sofa, holding some warm, weak coffee in a cup. The chapter which remained incomplete glowed accusingly on her laptop screen as indicated by the blinking cursor. In retrospect, typing used to be fun; it used to make her day, with characters and worlds coming out effortlessly through the keyboard.
